The BJP’s Premier Debate The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is getting scorched by the wrong debate at the wrong time: who should be prime minister? Elections in India aren’t due until May 2014. But this hasn’t stopped an unseemly, unacknowledged cold war erupting between two prime ministerial hopefuls: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his one-time mentor and eternal prime minister-in-waiting, L.K. Advani. As a result, Modi skipped the first day of the party’s National Executive meeting that began in New Delhi on Friday. The whole debate on who should be premier if the BJP takes power has taken a nasty turn with Gujarat BJP chief Balbir Punj describing Modi as ‘the bes...

PMO Launches Twitter Account Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s new Communications Advisor Pankaj Pachauri has already initiated an interesting change in the Prime Minister’s Office, just a couple of days after starting his new job – launching an account for Singh on Twitter. Pachauri, a TV journalist, was appointed last week with a brief to focus on social media, which has been utilized to good effect to bash the government by social activist Anna Hazare and his team since last year. Several ministries in the United Progressive Alliance government, including the Ministry of External Affairs, have been on Twitter and Facebook for quite some time. The MEA, in particular, used social networking sites during the Libyan crisis last year, with then-Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao using these sites to inform the world about the evacuation status of Indians who were stranded in Libya. The PMO’s first tweet, uploaded Sunday, was: “‘You make all of us proud’ – PM tells young bravehearts...

STORY OF KARAMBIR SINGH KANG-THE SAVIOUR OF TAJ HOTELS MUMBAI 26/11 Karambir wasn’t supposed to be his name. At 22, Kanwaljit Kang was married and pregnant. One night, she had a dream. A saint opened the Sikh holy book and said, “Name your baby, a son, Dusht Daman.” Kanwaljit only laughed. Such a hard name for a child, she thought. The name meant “Destroyer of demons”. The saint was right. A boy was born. For eight months, he went without a name. Finally, Kanwaljit and her husband Jagtar went to a nearby saint to ask for another name. A name not so rough. But the saint said the name should stay. Still, Kanwaljit resisted it. No, we must give him something more modern, she thought. A softer name. They settled on Karambir. It meant, “A person who does brave deeds”. Now, Kanwaljit, 61, cries when she talks about her son’s name. She wipes her eyes with her dupatta continuously. Her makeup smears into little rain clouds around her eyes. “If I had given him the name I was supposed to,...

In many ways, a manager has to be a leader, so therefore a manager will have many of the traits that a leader does. However, I feel the term 'manager' applies primarily to business, it's in a manager's best interest to lead his co-workers effectively, encouraging them to achieve their goals and targets. In my experience, a leader is more of a social thing; more associated with team work, too. Go to Discussion http://lnkd.in/wUJe5E
