As a manger you should have wider adaptability to diverse set of conditions, situations and of course basic and elementary knowledge of the core business processess. There are job rotations and you don't know when you will get an opportunity of managing a completelly new branch. I mean to say that if you are promoted or appointed as a branch manager, what strategies and policies you should adapt, for proper control and functioning of that branch. The managing abilities need much more competence when you are concerned with the Bank or any other Financial Institution. It is not good enough that you are good at crunching numbers, but for succesfull branch management, you need to have strong sa...

The concept of Branch Bank Management is catching pace, particularly in Banking and other financial institutions. There were lots of false beliefs associatd with Branching sytem and earlier most of executives considered it as the wastage of resources and time. Their notion was that, Internet will provide the necessary required aids to limit their reliance on the branch and the branch manager for sales and servicing, without any personalization .... But do you now feel that the trend and thinking is same? Obviously not. There is a potential  demand for the 'personal touch' that  has become the  key to success for  banks of all sizes, and  other areas of the financial institutions depend on br...

In the present age of technology, implementing core banking is the best solution. The centralised data base with centralised application serves many purposes. The customer is free to transact from any branch and any other mode of delivery channels like ATMs, Internet Banking etc. The transfer of funds will be very fast. Implementation of CBS will remove many hurdles for the bank as well as to the customers in conducting their day-to-day business. With the broad network of branches on a centralised platform will ease the branches in daily routines jobs like maintaining of books etc, thus they can concentrante on improving and building the customer service/base

Procrastination is a process by which an individual postpones taking actions they feel they ought to be taking. This postponement can be temporary, or it may drag on indefinitely, resulting in the desired action never being taken. Many people have problems with procrastination, ranging from simply putting things off until the last minute to actually failing to accomplish anything they set out to do because they continue to postpone it. There are a number of strategies for tackling procrastination, most of which involve reorganizing basic habits, and learning beneficial ways of thinking about individual tasks Essential to the idea of overcoming procrastination is the understanding that it is not an innate, or irreconcilable problem. Procrastination is a set of learned behaviors which get in the way of accomplishing specific goals. Like all learned behaviors, procrastination can be unlearned, and more productive methods of interaction can instead be achieved. Creating concrete to do...

Nicholas Carr's article "IT Doesn't Matter" (Harvard Business Review, May 2003) challenges the value proposition for IT. He argues that as companies become more dependent on IT for their day-to-day operations, so the emphasis switches to managing availability, reliability and security. As such, businesses should manage IT as a commodity. Do you subscribe to the Carr view? Do you align IT with the business in a purely supportive role? But innovations within IT continue to create possibilities and options for businesses that did not exist before. But where IT engages the business, pro actively and as an equal, companies will be able to continue to deliver strategic advantage through IT. The following will be useful in assessing the level of business engagement: - to whom does the IT function report in your business? For example, the Board (where the CIO/IT director is a Board member), the CEO (who has a business development focus), the COO (who has a business operations focus) or the...

Neural networks in financial engineering Neural networks have shown considerable successes in modeling financial data series. However, a major weakness of neural modeling is the lack of established procedures for performing tests for misspecified models, and tests of statistical significance for the various parameters that have been estimated.  This is a serious disadvantage in applications where there is a strong culture for testing not only the predictive power of a model or the sensitivity of the dependent variable to changes in the inputs but also the statistical significance of the finding at a specified level of confidence. Rarely is this more important than in the case of financial engineering, where the data generating processes are dominantly stochastic and only partially deterministic. Partly a tutorial, partly a review, this paper describes a collection of typical applications in options pricing, cointegration, the term structure of interest rates and models of...

Credit risk management is a very important area for for the banking sector and there are wide prospects of growth and other financial institutions also face problems which are financial in nature. Also, banking professionals have to maintain a balance between the risks and the returns. For a large customer base banks need to have a variety of loan products. If bank lowers the interest rates for the loans it offers, it will suffer In terms of equity, a bank must have substantial amount of capital on its reserve, but not too much that it misses the investment revenue, and not too little that it leads itself to financial instability and to the risk of regulatory non-compliance. Credit risk management is risk assessment that comes in an investment. Risk often comes in investing and in the allocation of capital. The risks must be assessed so as to derive a sound investment decision. And decisions should be made by balancing the risks and returns. Giving loans is a risky affair for bank...

Financial engineering has provided innumerable lucrative opportunities for otherwise indigent mathematicians Nevertheless the turbulence in the bond markets in the last couple of months, at a time when the world economy’s prospects seemed set fair, have exposed a guilty secret of the financial engineering profession: its methods don’t work. First area of failure is liquidity. Theoretically, if financial engineers design ever fancier artificial securities and derivatives, but everybody uses the same mathematical models to value them, there is no reason why an active market should not operate in the securities, at whatever price the models direct. In practice this only works in calm markets. In times of market turbulence, when doubts arise about either the mathematical models themselves or the underlying assets from which value is derived, the true value of these artificial assets becomes thoroughly unclear. Buyers assess their value at the lowest possible level, and refuse to...
