@Mr. Sreenivas, sir, gold is a precious commodity in the first place, moreover, the living standards and the wages has risen from the '60's, so that people can afford at the present prices. The wikipedia article clearly states there is no need to...
Srinivas suravajhala  |  Argues in support of  "Pessimist"  |  1 year ago
@ Cherian Sir, to my understanding "Cornucopian" is a futurist who believes in that there is enough matter and energy on the Earth to provide for the ever-rising population of the world. It means he is an "Optimist". Here Pessimist is tagged as...
Vinoy Scaria James  |  Argues in support of  "Optimist"  |  1 year ago
Thanks Cherian Sir for the topic! There is an indeed tilt towards pessimism in our society. Even policy decisions are treated with an air of - 'what could go wrong than what is the gains likely.' Naturally this reflects on decision makers and...

I was quite impressedwith this writeup by our own Rammana 1970 batch (Naturally from Hyderabad ) and hence sharing with some of my friends I am probably well qualified to write this tribute to a man I have criticized continuously on these boards. YSR is definitely a man with a touch with reality. He knew his people well. And he served them without reservation. Anything that is called great is superfluous without comparisons. So I am goig to make a few comparisons on why YSR was different. The first time I noticed YSR was his Padayatra 2003. He walked and walked. I thought it was like Gandhi traveling in 3rd class in his earlier days.  YSR came into power into AP that was very significant. C...

there should be a party which will stand on principles like Loksatta in Andhra Pradesh though it won only one seat in recent elections but it tumbled lot of big bulls in the recent elections due to its vote share

That is indeed a very good tribute and a very good insight on the gentleman who passed away!! Thanks for the referral.

YSR I believe has done a lot of good deeds as minister, yes it is to be lauded-there are people who destuct the very people who elect them. There are very few who actually perform in public.I guess he was one among them. At the same time Autocratic...

We all aware of Dr.Manmohan Singh's recent initiative to prevent corrupt politics and corruption in politics. The Government now is proposing to make a code of conduct for politicians or ministers that they should not own any business interests which will be in conflict with their public duties as ministers. Though, we yet to see as to the status of proposed code of conduct initiated by Dr.Manmohan Singh and how it will be implemented, I think, it’s a good move as it will trigger a discussion atleast among the public on an important public issue.  It is true that India can never claim that it is developed unless we bring required political reforms and able to give a clean and able governmen...

It is the educated, rich, urban voters who dont go out and vote.. they crib about the system and wants everything right without any participation. Where as the the uneducated voter will always vote, that too in the rural area.. Why he votes on...

The most significant reform is the VOTING RIGHTS BY EDUCATED only!! Really need to see how that is implemented because the dependence on vote banks reduces tremendously and immediately. Also, education becomes mandatory directly. I think its an...

i hope we are'nt talking of staff selection... the prerogative of choosing a cabinet or council of minister is with the PM or CM ..so leave to him/her u dont choose a minister b'cause, he is a MBA or MCA.or.... you need to be a good leader,...

Hi Arpit, considering Indian scenario, I would say, any move to cleanse the system wouldn't work. As we know our system is marred with corruption and nepotism. First eliminate these man made evils. Otherwise, those sitting in the proposed board...

Politics and government are treated as words with negative connotations in the Indian society. Interestingly, the same is not true for many countries in other parts of the world. In a first of its kind initiative, the Research Foundation for Governance in India (RFGI) has taken up the task of educating the young minds of Ahmedabad about how the political systems across the world work. Curtis Riep, a graduate in international relations from University of Calgary, Canada; Ramiro Gomes Monteiro, political sciences and history student at Utrecht University, Netherlands; Catherine See, student of international relations at the National University of Malaysia; Katie Farrer, bachelor of law and political science at University of Otago, New Zealand; Joshua Stark, student of international development from McGill University, Canada; along with Swar Shah, Apoorv Shah and Kanan Dhru of the RFGI team have been visiting different schools and colleges in the city. They interact with youths about...

Change max concurrent requests per CPU setting By default IIS7 has a limit of handling 12 concurrent requests per CPU and will queue requests above this limit. If you have some significant web load and many AJAX style requests to your server - this setting maybe very restrictive and it is hard to find out the root of the problem when you server performance is suddenly degraded.   See this post to get the picture how it can cause performance issues on your server.   Some relevant info about asp.net thread usage on IIS7 here:     asp.net thread usage on IIS7 and IIS6   Thomas Marquardt advice is to change this default limit. Recommended settings:   "All of this may be a little confusing, but for nearly everyone, my recommendation is that for ASP.NET 2.0 you should use the same settings as the defaults in ASP.NET v4.0; that is, set maxConcurrentRequestsPerCPU = "5000" and maxConcurrentThreadsPerCPU="0".   This is done by adding DWORD MaxConcurrentRequestsPerCPU to the registry under  ...

Housing in India varies greatly and reflects the socio-economic mix of its vast population. There are certain unique characteristics of Indian culture which drives its housing set-up. The most common structure is for the extended family (usually referred to as joint family) to live in the same house. For instance grandparents, their sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren live in the same household sharing the same kitchen. Brothers, sisters and cousins grow up together. Each husband-wife combination has their own bedroom. The eldest woman in the house sets the menu and leads the cooking. Women live with their in-laws after marriage. With modernisation there is a small but growing section of nuclear families in urban areas. It is still extremely rare for senior citizens to live alone. Conservative Indian society frowns upon young couples living together before marriage. Some single young adults live in same-sex dormitories during college or in shared accommodation during the early...

I am very happy to see 'Right to Education' becoming a reality. 'Right to Education' has become a fundamental right now. As everybody knows that a fundamental right is to be secured or ensured by the states and when the state is failed to secure a fundamental right, then, the citizens can approach the High Court or the Supreme Court under Article 226 of Constitution of India and under Article 32 respectively. We know what all the fundamental rights under the constitution and also the directive principles. We have seen in the past as to how the scope of Part-III of Constitution has been expanded by the Constitutional Courts from time to time and at one point of time, it has appeared to many as I believe that the line between Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles of State Policy has become very thin. Interpretation of constitutional provisions apart, ultimately it is the state that has to secure the rights. It is the bold step of the UPA led Congress Government making education...

The King is ailing, who will succeed the King? That is of course the question on the mind of Apple’s shareholders, employees and to a lesser extent its customers and clients (who will jump to a Droid or Google, if and when they create products that excite and service them as well as Apple products). Despite protestations and reassurances from Jobs and Apple COO, Tim Cook, and despite their not just weathering, but thriving during Jobs-less times, an Apple without Jobs makes many nervous to their core. If we were to think of Jobs not as a unique and irreproducible person, but as a mindset, skill set and capacity that could be deconstructed and then modeled, not only could Apple continue its amazing growth, but other companies might follow suit. Much has been written about Jobs trying to figure out his “secret sauce” so that others might use it to propel their companies and careers to extraordinary outcomes. 1.     Dropped out of Reed College 2.     Calligraphy 3.     Psychedelics...
