The explosion in genomic sequence avaliable in public databases has resulted in an unprecedented opportunity for computational whole genome analyses. A number of promising comparative based approaches have been developed for gene finding, regulatory element discovery and other purposes, and it is clear that these tools will play a fundamental role in analysing the enormous amount of new data that is currently being generated. The synthesis of computationally intensive comparative computational approaches with the requirement for computational scientists. So what are your views on this and let us discuss them on the platform..
In an intriguing primer on the genomics revolution, entrepreneur Barry Schuler says we can at least expect healthier, tastier food if not more. The primer video is below

In the last decades gene therapy much has been made of the possibilities of curing diseases caused by single abnormal genes. But despite over a decade of hype, the worldwide score for gene therapy is, cures were 0 and deaths were 5 atleast and...

Mere sequence entries in a database do not do the job . U need to have a rational approach towards this. It took several years for the science to reach to this stage where we r now. Still a lot to be achieved. We need more institutions which can...

Genetic risk assessment of complex diseases does not reside in plain genomic sequence information. Until gene function and protective/compensatory mechanisms have been identified and correlated within a system (individuals), sequence information...

In response to Kurian I wanna tel we human beings always work for money. You wont continue your job if that does not pay you. If we human beings are like commodoities who get sold for money why not the genes prepared by some scientist after their...

almost anything biological must now be patentable, to ensure future medical discoveries and a competitive biotechnology industry. For many religious and environmental groups, this is a misleading exaggeration at best. At worst, it reduces nature...

World IP Day, 26 April: "The Power of Ideas as the seedbed for innovation and creativity" "World Intellectual Property Day is an opportunity to encourage people to think about the role played by intellectual property in everyday life, and about its importance in stimulating and safeguarding innovation and creativity. This year we celebrate the starting point of all intellectual property, the seeds from which all innovations and creative works grow – ideas." WIPO member states decided, in 2000, to designate a World Intellectual Property Day to raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in our daily lives, and to celebrate the contribution made by innovators and artists to the development of societies across the globe. April 26 was chosen as this was the date on which the Convention establishing WIPO entered into force in 1970. Significance of World IP Day To raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact daily life To increase understanding of how...

"Ashok, a fresh computer graduate from a world- class University, goes for an interview in a Software company. The interviewer is Sunder, a grubby old man. And the first question he asks Ashok is, ‘Are you good at logic?’ ‘Of course,’ replies Ashok. ‘Let me test you,’ replies Sunder. ‘Two men come down a chimney. One comes with a clean face and the other comes out with a dirty face. Which one would wash his face?’ Ashok stares at Sunder. ‘Is that a test in Logic?’ Sunder nods. ‘The one with the dirty face washes his face’, Ashok answers wearily. ‘Wrong. The one with the clean face washes his face. Examine the simple logic. The one with the dirty face looks at the one with the clean face and thinks his face is clean. The one with the clean face looks at the one with the dirty face and thinks his face is dirty. So, the one with the clean face washes his face.’ ‘Hmm. I never thought of that," says Ashok. ‘Give me another test.’ Sunder holds up two fingers, ‘Two men come down a...
