Once a Minister from a corrupt third world country went abroad on a personal invitation from a minister from another nation. He was surprised at the extravagant red carpet welcome. After a while, he asked his host how he managed to extend such an expensive reception without any state sponsorship. the man took him to the window and pointing out to river, said ' Do you see that River?' and the answer was 'Yes'. ' Do you see that bridge on the river?' and the answer was again 'Yes'. The minister said, '10 percent'. Then the next year, the minister from third world country invited his counterpart to his own country and threw an even grander welcome. The man, though flattered, was surprised and ...

It been a pleasant morning and I was on my way to work. Its a ride for about 45 minutes. A short snooze was tampered by a commotion. I could see a podgy beer bellied cop growling at a co passenger, for a seat to rest his tubby butt on. I have also noticed that the cop hasn’t bothered to pay his fare, if not, flash a bus pass. The least bothered was the conductor, as well. He didn’t offer a  ticket  to the cop for the fear of being framed, indirectly or otherwise, if not a verbal abuse from the stinking ‘Gutkha’ pit of a mouth ( banned stuff). The police happen to take for granted that the public owe a lot to the police department. Well, yes...they do serve the public but then, they receive ...

Passing the Lokpal Bill can be a step in the right direction. But effectively it is going to be implemented. The other support systems are the same old, so how this Bill will help in removing corruption remains to be seen.

A Sufi Story Once upon a time, a fox that lost its legs lived in a forest. A forester who used to hunt saw the animal and wondered how it got its food. One day, he noticed a tiger approaching. The beast was dragging a fresh kill behind. It lay down on its favorite spot – incidentally, near the fox hole – and gorged on the meat. After its belly was full, it got up and rambled away. The fox ate the rest. This happened repeatedly. The man thought: “This is indeed mysterious. It must be the god that instructs the tiger to bring the fox, food. I’m a staunch believer in god and if I sit in a corner without hunting, I’m sure I will also receive divine kindness”. Days passed and he starved and became skin and bones. As he was dying, he heard a voice: “See the Truth! Why didn’t you follow the example of that tiger instead of imitating the fox” (And Rumi said “You have feet; why pretend that you’re a lame?)   Source: Indian Express dated 18 th Sept 2011

Beautiful Thought by Lord Buddha     Once Buddha was traveling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, "I am thirsty. Do get me some water from the lake." The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, "How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?" So he came back and told Buddha, "The water in there is very muddy. I don't think it is fit to drink." After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake. The disciple went back, and found that the water was still muddy. He returned and informed Buddha about the same. After sometime, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back. This time, the disciple found the mud had settled down, and the water was clean and clear. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha. Buddha looked at the water, and...

Self -Realization  Desire is the root of all knowledge, action and thinking. It is the cause of our entire universe with all its grief, stress, and strain. Yet all of us seek only to fulfill our desires. We believe that freedom is to be able to be able to do what we want, i.e., fulfill all our desires. Success is to achieve all we desire and happiness is to enjoy all we desire. Rather than seeking a state of  desirelessness , we wish to attain a state wherein we can fulfill all that we desire. And therefore, are we not envious of people who have everything they desire? Do we not feel attracted to and worship those who can produce and attain anything by mere will or wish? Do we not day dream of indulging and gorging on all we desire? Would it not be wonderful if all we wanted came to us with out us having to lift our little finger? Such a state of fulfillment of desires is promised to us by scriptures and the wise through SELF- realization. The self is infinite and infinity alone is...
