1 Pull
2 Identify the value stream
By : Sunil Misra
Saurabh Roy  |  Added idea  "Pull"  |  4 years ago
This has a very obvious implication for suppliers. Most organizations do not pull from suppliers, and many of those that do have "pull" systems in place are pulling from a supplier that is operating in "mass production" mode. This means that...
Prithvi Chanan  |  Added idea  "Identify the value stream"  |  4 years ago
The value stream includes all of the information and material flow steps necessary to bring a product to the end customer. This obviously involves suppliers. In many cases, both the information and material flows going in and out of each player in...

WHEN it comes to passenger car supplies, Indian companies are clearly on the back-foot. It is not so much a question of business cycles here as technology- and quality-consciousness. Component manufacturers clearly do not have the products to service the globalised Indian passenger car industry. Unlike commercial vehicles, the passenger car industry rides on technology, whether it be in engine management systems, emission control systems, climate control systems or in steering gear accessories. With luxury and comfort being the watchword in passenger cars, technology is being continuously fine-tuned and Indian component manufacturers are not equipped to keep pace. For example, vehicle elect...

Although many of us who may have visited the supposedly lean auto factories around our place ( if any ) will be immediately suspicious, and would look for trucks of raw materials parked in various dark alleyways nearby waiting to deliver their loads 'just in time.' Yes!!! Now when it is forecasting Hmmm... . Auto dealers will want to maintain some level of inventory so that potential customers can kick real tires, but I guess this isn't too bad. At least the ERP system is working off of actual demand instead of a 'how can we keep the factory working' criteria... which leads to overstock, high inventory, then discounts and paying employees not to work. These are probably few of the many prob...

May be you can Share your planned production from manufacturer to supplier and not just the procurement plan. So that the supplier gets the full picture of demand and can allocate the resources accordingly.

Are you aware of the tained imports from china, and other cases of supply chain risks?? Experts say the emergence of these deficient goods highlights the risks associated with today’s global supply chains. The far-flung networks of suppliers and transportation systems connecting them to their destinations present a new set of challenges. Another important problem is visibility, ie the company is not able to keep track on all the people in the supply chain because of its wide distribution. Following this is the problem of increased speed, increased speed as such is not a problem but increased speed means less time on product checks. Such threats to the supply chain increase the importance o...

Abhijeet Kadian  |  Added idea  "Minimum And Maximum Needs"  |  4 years ago
We must develop the sourcing strategy to separate the requirements into minimum needs and maximum desires. Minimum needs are those aspects of a potential supplier agreement that must be met (i.e. expedited shipping, company logo branding, specific...

The biggest management challenge in the new millennium of liberalisation and globalization for a business is to serve and maintain good relations with the king-the customer. In the past, producers took their customers for granted because at that time customers were not demanding nor had many alternative sources of supply or suppliers. Since he was a passive customer, the producer dictated terms and had little customer commitment. But today there is a radical transformation. The changing business environment is characterised by economic liberalisation, increasing competition, high consumer choice, enlightened and demanding customer, more emphasis on quality and value of purchase. All these changes have made today's producer shift from traditional marketing to modern marketing. Modern marketing calls for more than developing a product, pricing it, promoting it and making it accessible to target customers. It demands building trust, a binding force and value added relationship with...

In today's world of fast food, fast cars, and instant gratification, people expect to be in touch at all times. We have become conditioned to staying in touch with businesses, friends, and families. Because of this desire for instant data, we have the Internet, cell phones, Wi-Fi, MP3 players, and DVD players. As the equipment needed to drive this thirst has become smaller and smaller, we find ourselves looking for portable replacements for our bulky desktop computers. This article guides you into the exciting world of Windows mobile development so you can take advantage of an expanding opportunity to supply software to this burgeoning market. Getting Started There are currently two choices for producing mobile software using a Windows operating system: ActiveSync on XP, and—for Vista—a new interface built upon ActiveSync technology, called the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC). In the recent CoDe Focus issue on Mobile PC Development (2007, Volume 4, Issue 2), Nick Landry's...

Don’t forget the power of    POSTCARDS. Often that is all you need to get the basic message across,   I read this line when I was new to retail, In the age of  21, I started my retail business with a very small loan amount, one thing I was very much sure about was, as soon my retail will be popular in the area I will have too face heavy competitions. Retailers with more money, man power, better space, and better in everything will soon grow for competition, So from the very first day we concentrated on   customer relationship, and as I told you I read this line in a book and Implemented   the policy, we started collecting the data of the customer and tried to write them before every season, In the beginning as we had lack of money I my self use to write it, it   use to take four nights sitting but we use to do it manually to save money, our writing by hand was to   save money but it gave a very good message to customer and we had excellent    response from their side. This I...

Indian retailing industry has seen phenomenal growth in the last five years (2001-2006). Organized retailing has finally emerged from the shadows of unorganized retailing and is contributing significantly to the growth of Indian retail sector. Also India has topped the AT Kearney’s annual Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) for the third consecutive year, maintaining its position as the most attractive market for retail investment. Critical Highlights of Indian Retail Sector: Organized retail will form 10% of total retailing by the end of this decade (2010). From 2006 to 2010, the organized sector will grow at the CAGR of around 49.53% per annum. Cultural and regional differences in India are the biggest challenges in front of retailers. This factor deters the retailers in India from adopting a single retail format. Hypermarket is emerging as the most favorable format for the time being in India. The arrival of multinationals will further push the growth of hypermarket format,...

Traditionally retailing in India can be traced to the emergence of the neighborhood Kirana stores catering to the convenience of the consumers, an era of government support for rural retail: Indigenous franchise model of store chains run by Khadi Village Industries Commission, 1980s experienced slow change as India began to open up economy. Textiles sector with companies like Bombay Dyeing, Raymond's, S Kumar's and Grasim first saw the emergence of retail chains. Later Titan successfully created an organized retailing concept and established a series of showrooms for its premium watches. The latter half of the 1990s saw a fresh wave of entrants with a shift from Manufactures to Pure Retailers. For example Food World, Subhiksha and Nilgiris in food and FMCG; Planet M and Music World in music; Crossword and Fountainhead in books. Post 1995 onwards saw an emergence of shopping centers, mainly in urban areas, with facilities like car parking targeted to provide a complete destination...
