Hi, Microsoft project code named “Velocity” provides a highly scalable in-memory application cache for all kinds of data. By using cache, you can significantly improve application performance by avoiding unnecessary calls to the data source. Distributed cache enables your application to match increasing demand with increasing throughput by using a cache cluster that automatically manages the complexities of load balancing. When you use “Velocity,” you can retrieve data by using keys or other identifiers, named “tags.” “Velocity” supports optimistic and pessimistic concurrency models, high availability, and a variety of cache configurations. “Velocity” includes an ASP.NET session provider ob...

The word 'Push' has traditionally characterized FMCG sales systems in India. This is changing for the better in many ways. Sales in many companies like HLL, Marico and Colgate is secondary driven. Let me explain this to a reader who is new to sales jargons. Secondary driven basically means that retail orders to the distributor (secondary sale), which are a function of sales from the retail shelf(offtakes), determine the volume of primaries (billing from the company to the distributors - primary sale). In traditional sales systems the disproportionately high targets were driven by billing high volume of stocks to the distributors (primaries) without there being an adequate movement of stock from the distributor point to the trade (secondaries). This system worked as long as the brands has a demand (pull) that was proportionate to this loading. However in case of inadequate offtakes, this extra stock used to lie at the distributor point or die in the shelves of the retailer. In case...

World IP Day, 26 April: "The Power of Ideas as the seedbed for innovation and creativity" "World Intellectual Property Day is an opportunity to encourage people to think about the role played by intellectual property in everyday life, and about its importance in stimulating and safeguarding innovation and creativity. This year we celebrate the starting point of all intellectual property, the seeds from which all innovations and creative works grow – ideas." WIPO member states decided, in 2000, to designate a World Intellectual Property Day to raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in our daily lives, and to celebrate the contribution made by innovators and artists to the development of societies across the globe. April 26 was chosen as this was the date on which the Convention establishing WIPO entered into force in 1970. Significance of World IP Day To raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact daily life To increase understanding of how...

Grown in the lab: Artificial implants (Cornea) that restore sight in partially blind patients Here is a good news: Button-shaped artificial corneas have restored the sight in men and women in danger of going blind. The man-made corneas were just as good at improving eyesight as those usually obtained from donors. In time, the transparent implants could help ease the dire shortage of donated corneas. Worldwide, 1.5million people go blind each year because they cannot have corneal transplants. Damage to the cornea, the collagen-based transparent outermost layer of the eye, is one of the most common causes of blindness. It affects ten million people around the world and can be caused by genetics, surgery, burns, infection or chemotherapy. Previous attempts to develop synthetic implants have had limited success. To create an implant that is as close as the real thing as possible, the North American and Swedish researchers grew a synthetic form of human collagen in the lab and moulded...
