About "Energy security in 2010" topic:

Currently India faces a number of challenges in meeting its rapidly growing energy requirements to fuel economic development. Sustaining economic development is not only essential for overall growth, poverty alleviation and improved infrastructure for better standard of living, but also for social harmony, citizen safety and national security.Hence the importance of Energy Security is unparalleled.

And in recent years and months have seen increasing attention being paid to the issue of energy security. There are a number of concerns and fears such as

    * Oil and other fossil fuel depletion
    * Relying on foreign sources of energy
    * Energy needs of poorer countries, and demands from advancing developing countries such as China and India

Energy insecurity combined with other global issues risks fueling conflict. So lets discuss what energy security is all about and how we can maintain this energy security.

FIRST THING I NOTE IS THAT, A WRONG MAP IS USED HERE. A MAP SHOWING POK AS A PART OF PAK AND AKSAI CHIN AS A PART OF CHINA. FROM INDIA'S VIEW POINT, THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE MAP . The proposed pipe line may become pemanent headache for India....

1 Proper use of the RET
2 balance-consumption,production of energy
KALIYAMOORTHY  |  Added idea  "Reforms"  |  2 years ago
Energy is to be conserved by avoiding usage by pompous events ,for example by political parties, religious bodies etc. In new construction, design is to be planned in such a way to get natural lighting rather than to switch on artificial lights....
akash  |  Supported idea  "Proper use of the RET"  |  2 years ago
If we wish to exploit RET sector we need to diversify it, like a person in US can earn a handsome amount by selling his/her emission saved  in million tonnes of CO2 by using the RET forms or other energies saving techniques. The reforms there...
Azhar Kazmi  |  Supported idea  "Proper use of the RET"  |  2 years ago
RET has a great future obviously as traditional hydrocarbon resources shrink. But I am not really sure whether much purpose would be served by diversifying the oil import sources because of the oligopolistic nature of the global energy market.

Recent years and months have seen increasing attention being paid to the issue of energy security. There are a number of concerns and fears such as     * Oil and other fossil fuel depletion (peak oil, etc)     * Reliance on foreign sources of energy     * Geopolitics (such as supporting dictatorships, rising terrorism, “stability” of nations that supply energy)     * Energy needs of poorer countries, and demands from advancing developing countries such as China and India     * Economic efficiency versus population growth debate     * Environmental issues, in particular climate change     * Renewables and other alternative energy sources Energy insecurity combined with other global issues ri...

Nuclear Energy source may be the basic source in future. But source from Solar cannot be ignored. If general public starts making an attempt for Solar generation for their domestic need , regular demand of power from grid will get reduced...
Cyril  |  Commented  |  2 years ago
Nuclear will be one of the options available. However wind and solar power can be planned for energy security. Unless the demand and exponential forecasting in the years is not planned then its not possible to be self reluctant in energy.

Well friends even after the summitbn of copenhegen we are going for petrochemical energy or any other carbon based energy sourses investing R D for the same then it is very very criminal thiong for the coming gheneration. So now the time has come to take the move not to deceive the huminity by showing that we already are doing the measures for it. Well we are doing the measures as Solar Energy hydrogen Energy but why these thgings are not coming out of the research level. The very strong clear idea I have that noone wants to change because vthe change is always difficuilt. think  now we have very right time alternatives for it:- We can Implement Solar energy for the lightining. We can implo...

In my view, there is still the cost factor that hindering India's nuclear growth. Apparently there is still high cost of nuclear power in comparison to the power from other conventional sources.

Hi Shikha, I agree with data presented by you. Yes our dependence on oil import is getting increased day by day and by 2020 it will reach to 91%. To control this I think we should look from Supply and Demand side. For increasing the supply, we...

Security experts have discovered the biggest series of cyber attacks to date, involving the infiltration of the networks of 72 organizations including the United Nations, governments and companies around the world. The long list of victims in the five-year campaign include the governments of the United States, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Vietnam and Canada; the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN); the International Olympic Committee (IOC); the World Anti-Doping Agency; and an array of companies, from defense contractors to high-tech enterprises. "What is happening to all this data ... is still largely an open question. However, if even a fraction of it is used to build better competing products or beat a competitor at a key negotiation (due to having stolen the other team's playbook), the loss represents a massive economic threat." Jim Lewis, a cyber expert with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, was briefed on the discovery by McAfee. He said it was...

In today's news, I came across this article that scientists at Sandia National Labs who were seeking a means to create cheap and abundant hydrogen to power a hydrogen economy, realized they could use the same technology to "reverse-combust" CO2 back into fuel. They still have to improve the efficiency of the system, but they recently demonstrated a working prototype of their "Sunshine to Petrol" converting waste CO2 to carbon monoxide, and then syngas, consuming nothing but solar energy. The device, boasting the simple title Counter-Rotating-Ring Receiver Reactor Recuperator (CR5) sets off a thermo-chemical reaction by exposing an iron-rich composite to concentrated solar heat. The composite sheds an oxygen molecule when heated and gets one back as it cools, and therein lies the fuel. The cylindrical metal CR5 is divided into hot and cold chambers. Solar energy heats the hot chamber to a scorching 2,700 degrees, which forces the iron oxide composite to lose oxygen atoms. The...
