Print and Electronic Media survival is based out of commerials.  Exceptional contents are very costly, added to that is the beaming charges, etc.  Unless and until they add frills by way of commercials, they hardly can reach break-even in their...

To be neutral is their responsibility, but currently every newspaper is expressing views/agenda of political parties from which they get advertisements & other fringe benefits.

well, adding spice to news is fine but selling gossips as news is a big disappointment as media is a powerful industry....who does sania mirza marry is the current hotshot news in India.....oh cmon... there is so much happening ....

Absolutely not!! Media has every right to report the happenings, verbatim the better itis. In such cases its better to call a spade a spade. It will increase and heighten peoples senses to make things safer for all. It becomes a collective...

Media reports regarding uproar in Orissa Assembly over Vedanta University project on March 20 revealed how journalism practiced in India is fast shifting itself from the principle and ethical roots. Reports in different TV Channels and Newspapers were less informative than bias to influence the discussion scheduled for a date 4 days later. The statements of political leaders and Higher Education Minister were carried without any crosscheck of facts they said although we all know about the common proverb that ‘politicians promise a bridge when there is no river’ for a mere political benefit. A television channel in Orissa owned by the family of a ruling party MP telecasted reports that seeme...

Role of Media in exposing the scams in India is great, but at the same time, they should restrain themselves in doing media trial, when the cases are sub-judice in Apex court. They should throw all finer points corroborated with evidences!

I wholeheartedly agree. Today's media is only out to garner maximum TRP's and increase circulation. They dont have an objective reporting structure in place. We could even say that it is an overkill or misuse of democratic values. In a commercial...

At some point time we all would have had some bad experience or the other with all products. this is because for a product to sell in a tight market place the perceived value of that product has to be hyped up otherwise there will be no takers.

Satyamev Jayate - the motto of Journalism My decision to take Journalism as my career, was based on two things -- first, my hobby of reading and collecting newspaper articles and photographs on different subjects and second, my belief that it is much more than just a profession.         After being a regular reader of The Hindu (TH), The Times of India (TOI), Hindustan Times (HT), Deccan Herald (DH) and Navbharat Times (NT) for last 12 years, what I learnt is that media is not only a medium of propaganda, but it actually can create a change in the society.         I have come across several such attempts by these esteemed publications during the last decade. The articles written by the Rural Affairs Editor of The Hindu P Sainath on Farmer Suicide's and the 'Lead India' campaign from TOI for choosing the future leaders of our country, are two of the examples.         Even, just by bringing truth in the public domain, media has been at the forefront of change in the society. The...

Many advertisements come and go.. Few make an impression on our mind.. Impression might be good , bad and at times ugly!!! The government has cracked down on "obscene" deodorant advertisements directing advertisers to modify them or take them off air. The I B ministry has asked the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) to take action and submit a report within five days. On one side are the good ads like one of our Toostep user posted "wRite to change" ( Hath Uthao ) and on other hand are these ads.. It becomes more important because even the kids watch tv and ads will be viewed by all.. Many parents have hard time explaining to their kids that what it actually is and why should they change the channel. While the other group of people says why is this county with world's second largest population offended by sexuality? What is your point of view here?

I reckon the lines said by a sensible person in the past that a person cannot be deceived unless the he himself consents to be decieved. To be a bit more clearer, I quote the mordant tongue of my dear friend Chuck Doherty, “If a man is ready to blow, an aspirant will come even from the banks of Lake Titicaca hiring a cab, to make him blow.” “This country is full of people who are dangerously disciplined”, Doherty once lamented and it was about the people of India. He had always maintained that majority of the people of this country were poor sceptics and if there was a minority who looked like that, they were simply cynics. Although, I never understood initially what he meant, today I see something identical to Doherty's theory. This is all about a part of the media of Tamil Nadu revealing video clippings of alleged sexual escapades of a Godman in company of a second string South Indian female film artist. More interesting than the news itself has been the response put forth by the...
