are you happy
when there are few indians listed in a foreign magazine as the richest people of the world . or are you sad when there are thousands of farmers still commiting suicides because they find no better alternative than death , to save themselves from starving and debt traps of private hooligans.
when our rate of opening pubs and kalaris is more than schools. there are still villages 100% illiterates.
when there are lacs of children who work at the chaiwala canteens and thelas to just gather the food to survive 24x7 and there are a few who afford their children to have various art and degrees at the foreign schools.
are you proud to have a degree from a foreign university or you are ashamed that we still are not capable of producing good schools to be proud of.
when there are few who can afford to have a cosmatic surgery to have dimples on their cheeks spending millions of ruppees in a foreign hospital, and there are umpteen numbers who do not have a single doctor in their village or any medical facility.
what do you think?

Casteism can be minimized in the long run not removed as it's so deeply embedded into our psyche. How to minimize? It can be done through creating super-identities not based on caste. For instance, nationalism or regionalism can lessen the...

Ma be you disagree with me but you should know that most of dalit families are above the basic income group and still they are using the reservation which is not good for the person who is actually in need because of his /her economic conditions.

It is quiet unfortunate that I feel a bit of prejudice in your last comment Kashif. Nevertheless, dream will I continue to do, may be for the rest of my life, for one simple fact that I am fed up of having nightmares. Nightmares like an MP...

It would indeed be great if people like Gavaz can dream a very different role for organizations such as the RSS. I do not agree with your contention that "the real RSS is exclusively a social organization'. In fact, the cover that RSS uses is to...

Spot on Namrata! J K is a state in the Union, and should have the same rights and responsibilities as other states. Identical laws and rules should apply - at least from today if not over 60 years earlier. If people from Kashmir have the right...

I totally agree with Namrata on the subject. Actually the Article 370 should have been abolish by the government in order to boost the health of Kashmir as stated by Namrata.

Social entrepreneurship in India is making greater strides towards inclusiveness by involving every strata of society to tap into the momentum and growth of the country. However, in spite of several initiatives, social entrepreneurship eco-system in India is not coming together as well as it needs to. Their focus and collaboration on solutions should be directed towards not merely one-off acts of charity, but adding up to a vast array of sustainable services across sectors and industries that help people at the base of the pyramid, which is not happening in the country now. In the post-independent era, many enterprising men with social bent of mind had ventured into setting up educational institutions, which helped the country to move out of the chaotic state into a vibrant and democratic environment. But over the decades, these established institutions which laid the foundation for modern India, because of their sheer size, were forced to evolve into large business enterprises...

The other day I was in a restaurant and saw a sign advertising "Sliders Fridays." From what I gathered, they offered a deep discount on tiny hamburgers, called sliders, on Friday nights. The interesting thing about this discovery is that I own the restaurant and it's the first I knew of it. (Stacey's at Waterford: www.eatatstaceys.com ) I don't just own the restaurant. I also manage it, although I use that term loosely. I've taken the concept of hands-off management to the next level. Most of the time I have no idea what the staff is up to. They organize customer events, execute marketing ideas, hire and fire, change the menu, and pretty much anything else they want. I only get involved if there is a largish expense that needs to be approved. I see the financials daily, by e-mail, but I'm mostly about the bottom line. As a well-known critic of managers, I painted a big red bulls eye on my back when I started managing the restaurant. For the first year I was involved in the details...
