We boast of many R&D centers,PhD's every year. But How good is the research quality..? How many PhD projects have commercial viability..? We are doing just basic research, but no applied research. Scientists should work along doctors/experts of a...

Both conventional and genetically modified plant breeding change the genes of a plant so that a new and better variety is developed. Conventional plant breeding involves changing the genes of a plant so that a new and better variety is developed....

India is predominantly an Agrarian country. Our conventional methods are based on age-old practices after taking tremendous insights from our vedic knowledge, climatic conditions, soil nature and the fertility of soil. What they need is a support...

I don't believe in this kind of steps. This would in some way increase the bribing and corruption in health sector as most of the pharma companies would try to influence the concerned authorities to get a valid quality certification.

In what researchers at Newcastle University in the U.K. have dubbed a 'eureka moment,' a miniature human liver has been grown artificially in a laboratory through the use of stem cells, which may mean that in the future, full-sized organs could be artificially grown for transplants. Tissues such as this one could also be used to test the effects of new drugs, circumventing disasters such as the TGN-1412 trial. In that test, now known in the press as the 'elephant man drug trial,' the bodies of six volunteers flared up to dangerous levels after being administered an experimental drug, leaving at least one with terminal cancer. Having artificial tissue to test on could also mean fewer animal ...

All this is under research. you can say think definitely if they are not clinically proved. No stem cell research showed any cure in any disease. Also the effect of Stem cell is very slow appear in months. so not suitable for quick relief.

Future for the biotech industry is great and booming everyday. The first step in this direction was already taken recently, when genetically modified tropical fish with new and brilliant colors appeared in pet stores. Yet this technology has to progress to become user friendly. Also the breeders of plant species see a big future in this technology. This business is time consuming and scientists spend their life doing new experiments everyday. Also with emergence of genetic engineering, one can  breed new varieties of roses and orchids. Also, progress is continuing in field of human genome project and deciphering the codes of genetic codes. Domesticated biotechnology, will help in crop production and in production of variety of new species of nutrition rich food material.New lineages will proliferate to replace those that monoculture farming and deforestation have destroyed. Designing genomes will be successful as maximum efforts are taking place in this regard. One interesting thing...

Biotechnology V/s Intellectual Property   Intellectual Property is the term used to describe the branch of law, which protects the application of thoughts, ideas, and information, which are of commercial value. It thus covers the law relating to patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and other similar rights (Cornish, 1989). MODERN BIOTECHNOLOGY -- or "biological engineering," as some have called it -- has excited the imaginations and provoked the concerns of almost every part of society   Biotechnology companies and much of the mass media tout advances in modern biotechnology as little less than miraculous. The new techniques of engineering life are said to be responsible for two revolutions in contemporary society: a technological revolution, which promises solutions to hunger and disease, and a productive revolution, which will increase the efficiency of research development and manufacture of new products. Coupled with strong domestic and international intellectual...

Give impetus to Rural Telecom.   By Abraham Paul, MD CEO Future Groups (India), FCOMNET (UAE)   In spite of the few hiccups in the beginning, the privatization has pushed Telecom business in India making the services available and affordable to common man.   Most of the issues in the beginning were due to inertia of the incumbent provider in changing their old mindset. The main aspect of telecom expansion being that it virtually reduces space making the distance immaterial, the initial decision of making the GSM Wireless Telecom license areas co-terminus with existing telecom circles was one of the major flaws. Over and above disallowing of direct interconnects between different networks of the Service Provider forced them to make multiple investments on one side and loss of revenue to the incumbent operator on the other side.      Bringing in the concept of Pan India Telecom with Unified Licensing was a positive step to correct few of these earlier wrong doings. But the present...

Canadian scientists have found that the antioxidant power of garlic is related to the organic compound allicin, research that deepens our understanding of the potential benefits of this food and supplements favourite. The antioxidant effects are due to a compound called sulfenic acid, which is produced by the decomposition of allicin, according to data published in the international edition of Angewandte Chemie. "Basically the allicin compound has to decompose in order to generate a potent antioxidant," said lead author Dr Derek Pratt. "The reaction between the sulfenic acid and radicals is as fast as it can get, limited only by the time it takes for the two molecules to come into contact. No one has ever seen compounds, natural or synthetic, react this quickly as antioxidants." Consumer awareness of the health benefits of garlic, mostly in terms of cardiovascular and immune system health, has benefited the supplements industry, particularly since consumers seek the benefits of...
