About "Global Warming and carbon credit" topic:

Carbon credits are a key component of national and international attempts to mitigate the growth in concentrations of greenhouse gases(GHGs). Carbon trading is an application of an emissions trading  approach. Greenhouse gas emissions are capped and then markets are used to allocate the emissions among the group of regulated sources. The idea is to allow market mechanisms to drive industrial and commercial processes in the direction of low emissions or less "carbon intensive" approaches than are used when there is no cost to emitting carbon dioxide and other GHGs into the atmosphere. Since GHG mitigation projects generate credits, this approach can be used to finance carbon reduction schemes between trading partners and around the world.

There are also many companies that sell carbon credits to commercial and individual customers who are interested in lowering their carbon footprint on a voluntary basis. These carbon offsetters purchase the credits from an investment fund or a carbon development company that has aggregated the credits from individual projects. The quality of the credits is based in part on the validation process and sophistication of the fund or development company that acted as the sponsor to the carbon project. This is reflected in their price; voluntary units typically have less value than the units sold through the rigorously-validated Clean Development Mechanism.

- Firstly, the advantages of carbon credits mean that the money from the purchases of carbon credits is used to create renewable energy projects and develop sources of renewable energy from wind turbines and solar panels for example. - Energy...

TOP 10 THINGS TO REDUCE GLOBAL WARMING Burning fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, oil and gasoline raises the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and carbon dioxide is a major contributor to the green house effect and global warming. You can help to reduce the demand for fossil fuels, which in turn reduces global warming, by using energy more wisely. Here are 10 simple actions you can take to help reduce global warming. 1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle...

It concerns a disturbing revelation that a “flaw” in the UK’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) prevents any prosecutions for alleged fraud and malfeasance of public office by climatologists at the UK’s Climatic Reseach Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (UEA) who willfully abused the FOIA, in the scandal now known as “Climategate.” Why? Because no prosecutions can be brought for offences committed more than six months prior! - extract from ClimateGate website. change in temperature has been a proven environmental fact and our record of temperature variations is not too great to perceive or conceive any danger due to climate change. the whole debate at present is the result of a tussle between the...

As I was going through the news this article made me take a real close look of it as it had something to do with India and its 3 important metropolitan cities. And thought this would be a worthwhile reading for users on the platform. Days before the Copenhagen conference on climate change kicks off, a major study by a group of 100 international scientists has said that sea levels are likely to rise by as much as 1.4 metres (more than 4 feet) by the end of this century. That's twice as much as previously predicted in IPCC's fourth assessment report of 2007. The report released by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is the first comprehensive review of the impact of global...

Former US vice president Al Gore, who has campaigned relentlessly on green issues, is on track to become the world's first 'carbon billionaire' amid claims of profiting from the climate change agenda. It's been very long since he has abandoned mainstream politics following his defeat in the 2000 presidential polls against George W Bush, Gore's personal fortune has risen from 1.2 million pounds to an estimated 60 million pounds, according to a report in a News paper. It is claimed that the Nobel peace laureate is on course to become the world's first 'carbon billionaire' after significant investments in environment friendly projects like carbon trading markets, solar power, biofuels, electri...

Carbon Finance   It is expected that the rapidly increasing concentration of green house gases (GHGs) will increase the global mean surface temperature by 1.4 – 5.8 o C over the next 100 years. The repercussions of this will be severe particularly for developing countries, as their lack of resources makes them vulnerable to emergencies on a large scale. Under the Kyoto Protocol, Annex I countries of UNFCCC have taken binding commitments to reduce GHG emissions. The Kyoto Protocol provides for project based mechanisms, Clean Development Mechanism in particular, that allow a non Annex - I country like India to participate by developing projects that reduce GHG emissions below the 'business as...

In today's news, I came across this article that scientists at Sandia National Labs who were seeking a means to create cheap and abundant hydrogen to power a hydrogen economy, realized they could use the same technology to "reverse-combust" CO2 back into fuel. They still have to improve the efficiency of the system, but they recently demonstrated a working prototype of their "Sunshine to Petrol" converting waste CO2 to carbon monoxide, and then syngas, consuming nothing but solar energy. The device, boasting the simple title Counter-Rotating-Ring Receiver Reactor Recuperator (CR5) sets off a thermo-chemical reaction by exposing an iron-rich composite to concentrated solar heat. The composite sheds an oxygen molecule when heated and gets one back as it cools, and therein lies the fuel. The cylindrical metal CR5 is divided into hot and cold chambers. Solar energy heats the hot chamber to a scorching 2,700 degrees, which forces the iron oxide composite to lose oxygen atoms. The...
