There are more than 60 accredited hospitals in india either by JCI or NABH and if we add hospitals accredited by ISO then the number would be above 1000. Accredition have never helped indian patients to choose a healthcare service provider as it never clearly indicates what benefits the patient is going to get from such accredited institutions. There are no clear demarcation for differentiating hospitals with their collective performance as one set up may be for secondary, tertiary or quaternary care. Patients are either referred to one hospital by general physicians or person in whom they have faith or they choose independently by their past experience. Few of the indicators I hope may he...

Cashless hospitalization facility may soon be restored with the standoff between insurance companies and hospitals on the verge of a resolution. This spat came to the forefront in July when 18 insurance companies including the four public sector entities, dropped several hospitals from the list that allowed mediclaim policy holders cashless hospitalization on account of overbilling. Higher premium for super speciality hospitals : While the final agreement is under way, it may still take close to a month for it to be released in its entirety. It seems that policy holders will have to shell out more to cover treatment at super specialty hospitals. So in Mumbai, if you want to be treated at Li...

Facts about "Jana Gana Mana" - Just a thought for the National Anthem! How well do you know about it? I have always wondered who is the "adhinayak" and "bharat bhagya vidhata", whose praise we are singing. I thought might be Motherland India! Our current National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana" is sung throughout the country. Did you know the following about our national anthem, I didn't. To begin with, India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, was written by Rabindranath Tagore in honour of King George V and the Queen of England when they visited India in 1919. To honour their visit Pandit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included, which are in praise of the King and Queen. (And most of us think it is in the praise of our great motherland!! !) In the original Bengali verses only those provinces that were under British rule, i.e. Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha etc. were mentioned. None of the princely states were recognised which are integral parts of India...

India has formally cleared the biggest-ever Indo-US defence deal, the $4.1 billion contract for 10 C-17 Globemaster-III giant strategic airlift aircraft. All decks for the almost Rs 19,000-crore deal, which will support over 22,000 jobs in the US as Barack Obama himself put it, were cleared last month. On Monday, the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by PM Manmohan Singh gave the final go-ahead for the contract, under which the 10 Globemasters are to be delivered to IAF between 2013 and 2015. The $4.1 billion deal, in fact, could well become even bigger at a later stage. "They are fantastic aircraft, which we chose after a deep study of what all was available in the world market...After the first 10 Globemasters, we will examine the option to go in for another six,'' IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik told . Capable of carrying a maximum payload of 77.5 tonnes, which can include combat vehicles, artillery guns and battle-ready troops, the Boeing-manufactured Globemasters will...
