India's fiscal deficit for the 2008/09 fiscal year that ended on March 31 was 3.3 trillion rupees ($70 billion), the government said in a statement on Friday. The deficit is equivalent to 6.2 percent of India's gross domestic product (GDP), according to a Reuters calculation, and was higher than the government's target of 6 percent. In February, the government had revised upwards its fiscal deficit estimate for the year to 3.27 trillion rupees, equivalent to 6 percent of gross domestic product from an initial estimate of 2.5 percent. The deficit widened after the government announced extra spending of close to 1.5 trillion rupees to cover a farm debt scheme, subsidies and steps to stimulate...

Econophysics : When you hear the word 'econophysics' for the first time it you may be forgiven for thinking that it is some branch of physics concerned with energy efficiency, or indeed, anything else concerned with economising. Econophysics is actually nothing more than the composition of the words 'economics' and 'physics', which is now even more confusing. What does economics have to do with physics? The link between the two completely separate disciplines lies within the characteristic behaviour exhibited by financial markets similar to other known physical systems. In particular, financial markets, like systems encountered in non-equilibrium physics, are open systems with external info...

Yes..... I believe in this kind of concept but was thinking about these physicists turned financial analyst, definitely they would have been slightly on the receiving end after the recent market blow up.........
Mathew Cherian  |  Commented  |  2 years ago
Econophysics deals with systems that work 1)far from equilibrium or 2)organized disiequilibrium sytems like markets. They use Physical system analysis to study the markets and come to conclusions about how they behave.

Mean reversion  is a mathematical methodology commonly used for stock investing, but it can be applied to other processes. In general terms the idea is that both a stock's high and low prices are temporary, and that a stock's price will tend to have an average price over time. Mean reversion involves first identifying the trading range for a stock, and then computing the average price. (Persons using extensive financial analytical techniques establish the average price as it relates to assets, earnings, etc.) When the current market price is less than the average price, the stock is considered attractive for purchase, with the expectation that the price will rise. When the current market pr...

the old geezer writes again. here's a more non physical view of the 'second law of thermodynamics' (SLOTD). the law of entropy, or the SLOTD comprises one of the most fundamental laws of physics. it is also viewed as 'the law of disorder'. it is a straight forward law which states that in a closed system, you can't finish any physical process with as much useful energy as you had started with - some of it will always be wasted. this means that a perpetual motion machine is impossible - it will require doses of energy to continually go on. entropy (subject of the second law) energy (subject of the first law) and their relationship are fundamental to an undersatnding of not only physics, but of LIFE itself. many of us, even today, feel that having aquired the basics (in school), grads, post grads professional degrees / diplomas / skills (in various colleges), a few years of work ex, and a health looking network, our job is done. that would loosely relate to the first law - in that we...

Hyderabad June 7:  Bulls may be loading up stocks and nudging up the Sensex in anticipation of fresh economic reforms by the UPA Government, but recessionary fears continue to cast a gloom in the job market, especially for the fresh MBA pass-outs this year. Despite some recent positive signals in the recession-hit economies, fresh MBA graduates still have to deal with constricted campus placements and lower availability of jobs. A survey by the Hyderabad chapter of the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) Alumni Association has shown that so far hardly 20 to 30 per cent of the pass-outs from the 90-odd MBA colleges in Hyderabad this year have been able to land jobs. “It is a more or less similar story elsewhere in the country. Campus placements have dwindled beyond expectation,” the alumni association says. Collecting data from the 90-odd MBA colleges in Hyderabad, the association points out that 20 to 30 per cent of the 10,000 graduates who passed out this year have been...
