Madras University has some of the best management gurus teaching top class management functions. The department of Management studies is located in a serene and posh building near the Bay of Bengal inside the university campus. University of Madras offers management degree in 3 streams namely, Marketing, Finance and HUman resources both in regular stream and self-supportive stream. If you are a graduate you already have enough discipline to study for an MBA in the self supportive stream. I really think those who go for regular stream in MBA are looking to be spoon fed and they are not strong as those who go for self supportive studies. I have overwhelming reverence for the University of Ma...

Clearly "experienced" could be varied, but in general a WELL experienced individual would need one year or less of academic formation to be effective in the market.

When we speak of communication as the most important management tool, we must understand the elements that make it vital for our daily functioning at workplace. A person with whom we wish to exchange or share an idea will understand what we speak and write only when we try to communicate it in a way that will be understood by the other person. As we learn it in online MBA program that an idea can not be understood. It has to be encoded either in words or signs and symbols. Many MBA professionals have identified the advantages of good communication skills. In different ways they have suggested that good communication: Leads one to personal effectiveness Helps one to network with other people...

Hyderabad June 7: Bulls may be loading up stocks and nudging up the Sensex in anticipation of fresh economic reforms by the UPA Government, but recessionary fears continue to cast a gloom in the job market, especially for the fresh MBA pass-outs this year. Despite some recent positive signals in the recession-hit economies, fresh MBA graduates still have to deal with constricted campus placements and lower availability of jobs. A survey by the Hyderabad chapter of the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) Alumni Association has shown that so far hardly 20 to 30 per cent of the pass-outs from the 90-odd MBA colleges in Hyderabad this year have been able to land jobs. “It is a more or less similar story elsewhere in the country. Campus placements have dwindled beyond expectation,” the alumni association says. Collecting data from the 90-odd MBA colleges in Hyderabad, the association points out that 20 to 30 per cent of the 10,000 graduates who passed out this year have been...

The other day I was in a restaurant and saw a sign advertising "Sliders Fridays." From what I gathered, they offered a deep discount on tiny hamburgers, called sliders, on Friday nights. The interesting thing about this discovery is that I own the restaurant and it's the first I knew of it. (Stacey's at Waterford: www.eatatstaceys.com ) I don't just own the restaurant. I also manage it, although I use that term loosely. I've taken the concept of hands-off management to the next level. Most of the time I have no idea what the staff is up to. They organize customer events, execute marketing ideas, hire and fire, change the menu, and pretty much anything else they want. I only get involved if there is a largish expense that needs to be approved. I see the financials daily, by e-mail, but I'm mostly about the bottom line. As a well-known critic of managers, I painted a big red bulls eye on my back when I started managing the restaurant. For the first year I was involved in the details...
