During Recession "Wide Salary Cut" will be positive approach even mukesh ambani and many more ceo in world made cut in their salary himself. And it is also good for employee than Lay offs during period. Otherwise it is not a unique strategy......

I think the debate should be referenced i.e the debate is for period during recession time or all times and I think views may change with the associated period. In recession period I would say companies should go for wide cut as already there are...

Dayanand i partially agree with you as this would mean that companies dont think twice before recruiting people. Again, laying off employee just mean that you dont trust your employee potential. There are other ways to deal with the situation....

The best advise I can give is work for your self. Don't try to teach a old dog new tricks. It does not work. This is the problem we go to college to learn how to make money. Wrong. We should go to college to learn how to support ourselves and...

Its always the lowest in heirarchy who get beaten. Never does Layoff affect non-performing Leads and Managers. Ppl who have no support often get laid off in name of poor performance. Most of it is personal bias :( Hope things improve
Manmath Patil  |  Argues in support of  "No"  |  1 year ago
Its a strategy to avoid a future problem  Ex: for long term survival company, company should take these decisions and emotional feelings has no place in corporate life it does not show any incompetence of company
Navneet Chandra  |  Argues in support of  "No"  |  2 years ago
No, it only portrays the ability of an organization to take advantage of an opportunity to filter out average performers and bring in new blood. Have you ever heard of an organization laying off their top 20%? Never!!! Why not? The chances are...

The Idea of Work-sharing This the new mantra in the organizations in some parts of Europe and Japan where they are not laying of employees due to recession, rather than there is salary cut and the work is shared between two or three people what was previously one person's job. The idea is that employees are required to share the pain of coping with hard times while everyone gets to keep their jobs even if they're paid less. Worksharing is the latest buzzword in Japan Inc. Proponents say it's a good way to avoid American style layoffs in a society that has long fostered lifetime employment. Companies like Toyota Motor Corp, Mazda Motor Corp, Toshiba Corp. and ...

Hi Friends, Last month I had a meeting with one of my old friends, who is now VP–HR in a fairly large IT setup. He informed me that he is planning to lay off a couple of hundred people in his company, in a phased manner. What surprised me was that he mentioned that out of them around 80% are ‘difficult employees’.  I wondered aloud what was his definition of a ‘difficult employee’. What he told me was interesting and forms the basis of this post. “In every department/organization there are few people who are arrogant, demeaning (to others), insubordinate, not trustworthy, (always) cribbing and unproductive. And these employees are a huge drain for an organization in terms of wasted time, reduced productivity, inefficiency, and ultimately resulting in customer loss.” I again asked him as to why did the team, then not take precautions while hiring? He said these are traits and sometimes it is difficult to observe them during an interview. You get to know about them only from...
