The automotive industry in several developing countries were growing fast with the assistance of their respective governments. Even we should get such benefits from our government. There has to be an appropriate tariff policy in the country to safeguard the domestic auto industry from surge in imports and to develop adequate indigenous manufacturing base. Still India remain a small player in the world automotive market with a share of around 3 percent in the production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles (compared to China's 12 percent) and a sha...

Impact of Global Recession on Indian Car Industry Indian car industry is one of the most promising car industries across the globe. It has gradually strengthened its foothold in the international arena as well. The country is dealing with many car manufacturers, dealers, and associations in various different countries including U.S. From some countries, India imports cars and car components and to some India exports. With this, the global recession is obvious to have its impact on the Indian car industry. Though India has witnessed a growing customer base, it has not inoculated them from the global crisis. The crippling liquidity and high interest rates have slowed down the vehicle demand. ...

I have heard that few car manufactures are planning to increase the price and some have already increased the price by 2% or so. Do you think it was a right decision to increase the price of the car during the slowdown (recession) ??

General Motors Corp Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said on Thursday the No. 1 U.S. automaker expects overall 2008 U.S. auto sales to be about the same as the depressed levels of 2007, even as global sales hit a new high. Wagoner's outlook for U.S. auto sales was slightly more optimistic than many analyst views and corresponded with a drop in GM's share price to a 19-month low. Wagoner said GM projected that about 80 percent of the industry's sales growth over the next five years would come from emerging markets. Global sales in 2008 were on track to hit a record of between 74 million and 75 million vehicles in 2008. Wagoner said it was possible that tougher U.S. fuel economy standards could f...

Tax related benefits norms to obsolete 15 years older vehicle by different state govt. are the main reason behind this growth. Growth of other sectors like power manufacturing sector is also helping auto sector to grow.
