Step1 When the interviewer asks why they should hire you, it's important to be prepared. It's a good idea to jot down a basic outline of the points you want to cover prior to the interview. Don't memorize it, but make sure you know exactly what...

Review these typical interview questions and think about how you would answer them. Read the questions listed; you will also find some strategy suggestions with it. 1. Tell me about yourself: The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present. 2. Why did you leave your last job? Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with managemen...

I’ve interviewed MANY people over the years. Some were rising stars and some weren’t. What differentiated the two really came down to attitude and response. The “star” candidates among us projected the right thoughts, articulation and mirroring body language. They think before they speak and they displayed a remarkable ability to maintain calm during the most stressful of questioning. Chances are if you have ever landed a job you have said and did the right things. As you start becoming more transient you will be meeting with more people and thus the likelihood of doing something which will harm your chances will increase. One time I was interviewing someone who not only had his cell p...

Great article, just a small addition: 10. Don't be too humble. - This means both by posture and by attitude. Sit up straight, you are the right man (or woman) for the job, otherwise you would not be there. Keep an open posture. If you lean back...

Body talk at interviews!! The spoken and the unspoken rules at interviews. Are you taking notes? Once you are ushered into the interview room there will usually be a short exchange of pleasantries and ice-breaking. This time is designed to put you at ease in most circumstances, but these initial moments are the most formative. Try to follow the Middle Path here don't go overboard being exceptionally friendly or alternatively going rigid with fear feeling that your handshake was too limp! Here are more tips to help you out... * Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor. * Lean slightly towards the interviewer. * Don't play with your hair or you hands. Keep them out of your pock...

AVOID SIX COMMON INTERVIEW MISTAKES Tip # 1: Don't discuss pay too early As the manager of a software store for 10 years, I can honestly say that questions about pay in the first interview from anyone other than a temporary applicant always bothered me a little. Temp jobs aside, if you are not really out there just for the money, asking this question right out of the gate is going to make any other questions you ask sound conniving and insincere. Unless the subject comes up, don't wade into the issue of the pay in the first interview. You can talk about it after you impress the employer enough for a second interview. Tip # 2: Talk tech to techies only Feel free to discuss what you know, but...

What is your job like? - What do you do? What are the duties/functions/responsibilities of your job? - What kinds of problems do you deal with? - What kinds of decisions do you make? - What percentage of your time is spent doing what? - How does the time use vary? Are there busy and slow times or is the work activity fairly constant? How did this type of work interest you and how did you get started? How did you get your job? What jobs and experiences have led you to your present position? What are the most important personal satisfactions and dissatisfactions connected with your occupation? What part of this job do you personally find most satisfying? Most challenging? What things...

Your preparation for the interview has equipped you with a number of questions that will help you get to know and evaluate candidates. But there's plenty more to do before, during and after the interview. Follow these tips: Before the Interview Put Candidates at Ease: Interviewing can be stressful, so do your best to help candidates relax. Make sure each candidate is greeted and escorted, if necessary, to the interview location. Start with low-key questions. Don't Judge on First Impressions: We've all met them -- people who don't make a great first impression but end up being great employees. To make sure you don't overlook these diamonds in the rough, withhold judgment until you've had t...

It's your turn! As the interview comes to a close, one of the final questions you may be asked is 'What can I answer for you?' Have interview questions of your own ready to ask. You aren't simply trying to get this job - you are also interviewing the employer to assess whether this company and the position are a good fit for you. Interview Questions to Ask How would you describe the responsibilities of the position? How would you describe a typical week/day in this position? Is this a new position? If not, what did the previous employee go on to do? What is the company's management style? Who does this position report to? If I am offered the position, can I meet him/her? How many people w...

One of the most popular question asked during a job interview is where do you see your self five years from now? However, it may soon get redundant for the current economic scenario has made it difficult for employers and employees alike to foresee their fate one year from now, let alone five years. HR experts list some of the most popular recession related job interview questions and even guide you on the kind of replies you should be giving in order to gain an edge over the rest. Significance of the questions being asked by your interviewer: It will help him understand the individual’s primary reason for changing jobs as well get an insight into how well he/she has thought through the dec...

THE formula for success in job interviews is not written in stone, especially when it comes to tricky questions. For instance if you are being interviewed for a sales position, a potential employer may ask you, “What would you do if a clients hinted at kickbacks?” How would you respond? Will you appear shocked or deliver your answer with poise? Here are some suggestions on how to answer 10 such questions. Being prepared will give an edge, and not to mention, boost your confidence.
