As recession is still on and the world is expecting a turnaround by the end of this year, what do IT professionals like us do to get ahead in career and also to get ourselves rewarded for hardwork we put in everyday.
First and foremost the HR and the Program Managers should work in tandem and each employee should have a HR discussion every quarter based on his performance and come up with brainstorming for enhancing / leveraging their performance and take it to next level . Performance is not only aided by but my motivation from Peers, Managers who directly or indirectly control an employee.
We find that lacking and today's managers are worried about raising their purses or fattening their purse than looking into problems that affect their subordinates.
Companies need to think how to motivate the smart workers and bright workers and also to give direction to employees who are in depression due to non availability of Projects / Lay offs.
Motivation and Rewards , be it in kind or any outing or a appreciatory email would go long way in enhancing employee perception and performance.
IT employees need to rethink on how to satisfy their bosses not by being a slave but by being able to prove that they are reliable and trustworthy.
With all the above, I am sure that IT executives and employees can beat recession blues and emerge stronger and ultimately ask for a payraise.

Each one has his /her own domain of speciality. Taking care of the family is a speciality where men can not match women. Hence women need to stay at home , not because they can not work ( in fact they work better), but because they have better...

Stay Liquid: In down times cash is king. Review credit policies for customers and take credit from suppliers. Increase cash discounts for customers if required. Enhance customer relationships: One to one close relationship with customers is a must. Build relationship with all customers including small customers which you may not have got enough attention during economic boom. Listen to customers, know their situation and accept their demands and complaints wherever possible. Build up their confidence level. Don’t sack employees instead try to build up their confidence level. Sacking employees lowers motivation level of employees and creates an atmosphere of fear and mistrust which is bound to affect work. It also spoils public image of the company in the market. If required implement pay cuts and freeze all pay hikes for all employees. Start pay cuts from the top to create a good image. Review all expenses in all departments. Keep costs as low as possible. Review all...

Hello friends, Sharing you with you an interesting blog posted on TalentEquity.in about how to be cheerful at workplace. Kindly share your views on this. "This is the beginning of a new year and is a right time to take stock of your work life. We take many resolutions to make our personal and professional life better and more disciplined. Well, I am not going to discuss on resolutions and their follow ups. However one thing which is very important at work is to be cheerful and happy. This not only set positive vibration around you but also establishes you as being someone who is in control, smooth, relaxed, confident and mature. So be cheerful all the time. What if a project has failed, boss has given not-so-good feedback. What if you have not got on-site opportunity this year. Salary increment and promotion is still pending. It’s still no reason to loose your smile. Whatever your situation is things will get better for sure. Actually maintaining a cheerful and happy outlook is...

The prevention of violence and harassment at work represents a challenge for many organisations, but it is relatively easy to take some first steps towards effective prevention, and a growing number of enterprises are introducing measures to deal with these psychosocial hazards. Both employers and employees should be aware of the risk factors associated with workplace violence and harassment, and organisations must have prevention measures in place to control these risks, including policies and procedures, emergency and post-incident action plans, etc. Below you can find some simple steps that organisations can take to start to improve the prevention of these hazards. 1. Increase awareness about psychosocial hazards * Provide information on how to recognise harassment, risk factors for violence, what are their effects, how to get additional information, etc. 2. Encourage an appropriate management style and organisational culture * Foster...
