Apple launched its much awaited tablet "ipad", which is now being sold for $499. which I think is a bit too high for Indian consumers, The device weighs just 1.5 pounds, compared with a few pounds for the typical laptop. At a mere half-inch thick, the iPad is also thinner than most laptops, including Apple's super-thin Macbook Air. The entry-level iPad is less expensive than most full-fledged laptops and claims to have a longer battery life at 10 hours, compared with three to four hours for a typical full-sized laptop.

So how do you think this ipad will fare with consumers. Let's see how this new hyped ipad goes about wooing consumers, as iphone and its ipod which is a highly popular product from Apple, and whether it will give a laptops a run for their money.

No, I don't think so that ipad will replace laptops or netbooks, even I was following very keenly the launch of ipad which had created so much buzz. And $499 is too costly for one, though looks good and sleek, I really thought the ipad will be...

iPad is NOT having flash support and it won't support multi-tasking (have to close one app/program to open another). And there is no built-in camera and much more shortcomings. Thanks Read our Review Will Apple iPad kill Amazon Kindle?

I am on the fence about this issue but am going to say no. Maybe not for another few years. And iPad revolutionizing the published book market in a manner similar to what iPod did to music industry is unthinkable because as Sumitra pointed out...

The chance of Apple having the same impact on the e-book market as they had on the music industry is pretty slim. But still, iPad will enable publishers to display content in new ways, such as incorporating photos, elaborate graphics and video in...

With every bottom-up step from iPod to iPhone and top-down step from Mac Book to Mac Air, Apple has blurred boundaries between a laptop and mobile device, entertainment and productivity, and finally improvisation and innovation. iPad is a great...

Few more: 1.Apple focuses on consumer Market where as Microsoft focuses on Enterprise market which is huge in size and revenue. 2.Apple shows too much proprietorship compare to Microsoft. 3.Microsoft products are less in price and has huge scope.

The King is ailing, who will succeed the King? That is of course the question on the mind of Apple’s shareholders, employees and to a lesser extent its customers and clients (who will jump to a Droid or Google, if and when they create products that excite and service them as well as Apple products). Despite protestations and reassurances from Jobs and Apple COO, Tim Cook, and despite their not just weathering, but thriving during Jobs-less times, an Apple without Jobs makes many nervous to their core. If we were to think of Jobs not as a unique and irreproducible person, but as a mindset, skill set and capacity that could be deconstructed and then modeled, not only could Apple continue its amazing growth, but other companies might follow suit. Much has been written about Jobs trying to figure out his “secret sauce” so that others might use it to propel their companies and careers to extraordinary outcomes. 1. Dropped out of Reed College 2. Calligraphy 3. Psychedelics...

How IT cos hurt environment The machines that handle the world's computing tasks are also some of the planet's biggest polluters . Data centers, PCs, mobile phones and gaming consoles use electricity that frequently comes from coal-burning power plants or other sources of energy that give off high carbon emissions. The information and communication technology (ICT) industry in the US is on track to quadruple its consumption of electricity between 2009 and 2020, according to a study released today from the Institute for Sustainable and Applied Infodynamics (ISAID) in Singapore and Rice University in Houston, Texas . Unless electronics can be altered to become significantly more energy-efficient, the related carbon emissions from these products are set to grow as well, says the report. In the US carbon emissions related to tech products will grow from 72.95 megatons of carbon dioxide released in 2009 to 195.06 megatons released in 2020. About 6 per cent of the world's...

Nicholas Carr's article "IT Doesn't Matter" (Harvard Business Review, May 2003) challenges the value proposition for IT. He argues that as companies become more dependent on IT for their day-to-day operations, so the emphasis switches to managing availability, reliability and security. As such, businesses should manage IT as a commodity. Do you subscribe to the Carr view? Do you align IT with the business in a purely supportive role? But innovations within IT continue to create possibilities and options for businesses that did not exist before. But where IT engages the business, pro actively and as an equal, companies will be able to continue to deliver strategic advantage through IT. The following will be useful in assessing the level of business engagement: - to whom does the IT function report in your business? For example, the Board (where the CIO/IT director is a Board member), the CEO (who has a business development focus), the COO (who has a business operations focus) or the...

Most IT project evaluations are like the tail wagging the dog. They begin with IT strategy, rather than the goals of the business. In fact, IT strategy should be the third link in a chain that begins with business strategy, which in turn governs the product or service strategy, which then drives IT strategy. Lets understand this with a mid size CRM company Business strategy: Increase the customer base by 20 percent in the next year by providing increased functionality such as business operations analytics and executive dashboards. Product strategy: Develop an alliance with a business intelligence (BI) software company to add analytical capabilities to the CRM software. IT strategy: Create a new software platform that allows for easy integration with the BI software company and others. IT projects: Develop a Web services–based platform that offers universal data exchange and messaging between the CRM software and the BI software. While this hierarchy reveals whether IT projects...

Written by Nisan Gabbay Facebook was launched in February 2004 by Harvard undergrad students as an alternative to the traditional student directory. Its popularity quickly spread to other colleges in the US by word of mouth, and the site now registers close to 15M monthly UVs and over 6B page views per month. Facebook has completed two rounds of venture financing at very high valuations, the first at a valuation of ~$100M and the second at ~$550M (valuations are unconfirmed). These valuations were driven by the multiple acquisition offers that Facebook has reportedly turned down (the latest was a rumored $750M offer). Facebook is already generating significant revenue, so despite all the valuation and web traffic metric hype, it has also established a very real business. Interviews conducted: Noah Kagan, early product manager for Facebook. Noah will soon release an e-book on Facebook, with good insight on the social networking space. You will be able to download the book at Noah s...
