You may be wondering why I am telling you so. I feel that recession is like viral fever which has spread very fast and it is now that wherever you go, you will listen people talking about this word in may be in terms of its synonyms. Although the actual recession may be of very small magnitude but due to the fear factor it has created a tremendous impact on global economy. People no longer taking any major decisions whatsoever it may be where spending money is involved. People going to barbour’s shop and after having done necessary things...

Amid the economic downturn impacting companies worldwide, India Inc remains cautiously optimistic with just 16 per cent firms freezing salaries and as low as 6 per cent reducing pays for 2009-10, a survey by HR consultancy Hewitt Associates says. According to a mid-year survey on 'Performance Reward Trends' by Hewitt Associates, companies across industries are strongly differentiating rewards on the basis of performance but majority of them are not considering any layoffs or severe salary cuts in current fiscal. 'With only five per cent of the organisations considering layoffs, minimal salary reduction at 6 per cent and salary freeze at 16 per cent, India Inc looks cautiously optimistic,' H...

Tech Mahindra is opting for such a cost cutting measure to control the falling revenues in the company. Vineet Nayyar, CEO of Tech Mahindra had said last week that Satyam has about 10,000 surplus staff and 'we are looking at the least painful ways to tackle the problem.' IN RECENT times, Maharashtra has been experiencing a severe power crisis. For many decades, it had a reputation for reliable supply and recorded good progress both in industry and agriculture. But because of little or no addition to generation capacity for almost a decade, many parts of Maharashtra are now subject to power cuts for six-ten hours a day. During the 1990s, there was a flurry of seminars and symposia by the Independent Power Producers Association (IPPA) to educate government functionaries about how the structure of the power supply industry should be changed to make it IPP-friendly. Notwithstanding the time and energy invested by civil servants and politicians, the growth in private sector generation over the past decade-and-a-half has been very modest and indeed dismal. The star of the private sector, Enron project, which has occupied media space extensively over the past decade, has been a real disaster for the country. Many power professionals warned the country of...
