About "Kirana Stores Vs Organized Retail" topic:
Small stores, also called kirana stores, will continue to grow alongside organized retail, but at a slower rate, and it might be a decade before such store owners lose business to the big retailers, providing an ample window for India to help make the smaller players part of the transition in retailing, But in the recent times it is said that kirana stores are joining together to combat the organized retail stores, so this will be going on all the time like who is better, but right now the kirana stores are happy at the moment with crisis going on people are coming back to kirana stores, so What do you think on this issue, Do share your views on this.

Well from the very begining i want to tell that I have no numbers to substantiate what I believe. i.e. Kiranas will live - not rule. Here’s why. I’ll limit myself to one case-study to further what I’m saying (which I also know from personal experience), i.e. Food Bazaar (part of Kishore Biyani’s retail chain, and part of what you’ve referred to above as “Big Bazaar”) near forum Mall, bangalore. Here’s what I’ve seen at this Food Bazaar 1. Huge variety - within each group, across brands, vegetables, fruits, plastic stuff, etc. etc. 2. Crowds - it’s a big place (not sure of the area, but its large) and fairly packed on weekends (as you pointed to above) with people of the variety mentioned ab...

This format of retail will be applicable only in locations where the disposable incomes are high, In villages and small towns still the kiranas have to exist. Yes it is true to some extent they are effected.

Both Gaurav and Ajay have got it right equally. Kirana stores will indeed stay for the very simple reason as stated above - personalised service. If i may add further to it - A kirana store owner may even go out of the way to source some rare...

I beg to differ partly. Mall stores offer deep discount, greater variety and independence of making choices, which smart buyers are quick to grasp. On the other side of the spectrum"kirana" stores have higher prices and do severly restrict...

Not unless they get more organized and marketing savvy. The rural and urban lower economic strata will definitely prefer Kiranas because they stock the smaller brands and smaller pack sizes and certain items are available only with them in loose...

Rajgopal I agree with you the kiranas are still in the business. As you said most of the Indians are not used to mall culture. The mall culture has hit only certain cities and majority of other parts of India depend only on kiranas. So we cannot...

My feeling is that the kiranas are always going to be around. At most they would shed there inhibitions and make a facade change to attract the customer, but they will remain. With the introduction of plastic, only the buying patterns have...

Private labels V/s national brands-The undercurrent battle! This is very interesting to note that what is making national brands vexing is not the competitors alone but the surge of private labels which seems to be eating out major chunk of the pie, traditionally a part of the appetite of the former. Private Label Manufacturer's Association categorizes PL manufacturers into 4 main categories: Large national brand manufacturers that utilize their expertise and excess plant capacity to supply store brands. Mall, quality manufacturers who specialize in particular product lines and concentrate on producing store brands almost exclusively. Often these companies are owned by corporations that also produce national brands. Major retailers and wholesalers that own their own manufacturing facilities and provide store brand products for themselves. Regional brand manufacturers that produce private label products for specific markets. In 2008, private labels had taken over 25% to 50% in...

It is relatively easy to identify the use count and resource usage of your SP’s, but first let me discuss how SQL Server maintains the execution statistics. The SQL Server engine keeps execution statistics for each SQL Server 2005 instance. Execution Statistics are an accumulation of execution information about what has been run since the instances has started. Each time an instance is stopped and restarted all execution statistics are reset. Individual execution statistics for an object are tied to cached execution plans. When a SP is compiled, an execution plan is cached in memory. These cached execution plans are uniquely identified by a plan_handle. Since memory is limited, SQL Server from time to time will remove execution plans from memory, if the cached plan is not being actively used. Therefore the statistics stored for a particular SP maybe for an accumulation of stats since SQL Server started, if the SP has only be compiled once. Or, it may only have statistics for the...
