Top Recruiter Leadership Tips To be a successful Recruiter, you need to be a passionate leader. Recruiters are often underestimated as merely being the middle man (as opposed to leaders) between Job seekers and employers. While this is the condensed description of the basic function, Recruiters are in fact a source of empowerment which binds opportunity to success. In order to produce such results, Recruiters need to learn to lead. Contrary to most beliefs, leadership is not a quality reserved to a select few, lucky enough to have been born with. Leadership is behaviour and just as in classical conditioning, behaviour can and is a learnt function. Leadership qualities can be innate, but the...

Leaders should focus on real world and shouldn't be emotional. Leaders who cry or become emotional are too focused on feelings which will often turn off people who are well situated to help them succeed. No one wants to spend time with a...

Do you like to believe that the so-called ‘command and control’ is an exceptionally distasteful idea for intellctual work such as software development? I don’t particularly disagree with you, but just wondering – have you ever worked for a stereotypical ‘command and control organization’ in software industry, where things were forcibly thrust down your throat without taking your views, or you not having any freedom to question or disagree? We all seem to have romantic ideas and idealistic opinions about what it means (rather, what it should mean) but let’s ‘inspect and adapt’ our understanding with the real-world experiences so that we have a correct understanding of an incorrect idea. In...

Hi, Would like to share one of the most interesting articles read recently. Leaders - 'Some men are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them' . Shakespeare was good about leadership, as about most other things. The spoof letter which caused poor Malvolio to make such a fool of himself contains words that say a lot about the subject. 'Some men are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them' . Greatness and leadership are so closely akin that the words give us a useful point of departure. 'Born great' has two possible meanings: either being born to a great position, such as that of an hereditary monarch, or possessing natur...

Three Little Words Every Leader Needs to Learn b y Rosabeth Moss Kanter There are three little words that extraordinary leaders know how to say, and I'm not thinking of 'I love you' (but those are pretty good). The magic words are 'I was wrong.' Husbands and wives know that saying those words to each other can be even more endearing than endearments. When leaders say them to their teams in a timely fashion, they build confidence and can move on to a better path. The simple sentence 'I was wrong' is the hardest for leaders to utter and the most necessary for them to learn. Alan Greenspan came close to saying it in the heat of the global financial meltdown, but not quite. When the former ch...

If you recently interviewed for a management position, you were probably asked the question: What kind of a leader are you? I am not entirely sure what kind of an answer is desired; perhaps, something along the lines of: “I practice consultative leadership, but I make my own decisions, so the buck always stops with me.” Or, perhaps, “I lead through delegation, by my empowering people to make decisions and endorsing them.” The interviewer might have nodded appreciatively and mumbled, “Good,” and you might have gotten the job, but is there a right answer? Is there one particular model of leadership style that everyone should aspire to adopt? I will attempt to answer this question here. A lead...

'Leaders think ahead of the others '. This was the response made by a freelance software program when asked to define leadership in the online workshop session on transformational leadership. While there where other responses about the definition of leadership , all of participants agreed that leaders have three basic qualities . 1. Leaders have a vision 2. Leaders share that vision 3. Leaders turn that vision into action. In a further interactive discussion on the transformation leadership workshop there was also a revelation that there are different scopes of leadership . The following scopes of leadership are listed here 1. Personal Leadership 2.Family Leadership 3.Organizational Leaders...

There are some "Blind Spots", the personality traits which are obstacles to become a good leader. These are the bad habits we have, due to the lack of self-awareness or reluctant to improve. These are- Blind ambition- Has to win or "right" at all costs; competes instead of cooperates; exaggerates his/her own value and contribution; is boastful and arrogant; sees people in black-and-white terms as allies or enemies. Unrealistic goals- Sets overly ambitious, unattainable goals for the group or organisation; is unrealistic about what it takes to get jobs done. Relentless striving- Compulsively hardworking at the expense of all else in life; runs on empty; is vulnerable to bunout. Drives others- Pushes other people too hard, burning them out; micromanages and takes over instead of delegating; comes actoss as abrasive or ruthless and insensitive to the emotional harm to others. Power hungry- Seeks power fot his/her own interests, rather than the organisation's; pushes a personal agenda...
