The other day I was in a restaurant and saw a sign advertising 'Sliders Fridays.' From what I gathered, they offered a deep discount on tiny hamburgers, called sliders, on Friday nights. The interesting thing about this discovery is that I own the restaurant and it's the first I knew of it. (Stacey's at Waterford:  www.eatatstaceys.com ) I don't just own the restaurant. I also manage it, although I use that term loosely. I've taken the concept of hands-off management to the next level. Most of the time I have no idea what the staff is up to. They organize customer events, execute marketing ideas, hire and fire, change the menu, and pretty much anything else they want. I only get involved if...

Definitely Prakash employees are the internal customers of a company and if one wants to satisfy external customers then they first need to take care of the need of internal customers.

Training budget should be increased infact, since this is the time to invest when the market is down with recession. Now is the time when employees feel insecure and devoting time for training, will enhance their spirit, motovation & self esteem....

Training budget means $ though the ROI is a long term issue. A company need not shell out dollars to meet all training requirements. They could very well use th buddy system, one to one coaching and attribute recognition to the participant and...

Indeed I second the opinion that training is a must, especially during crisis! Still, there are resources that might be useful for those which are looking to enhance the "in-house" training! In Romania we have www.avabox.ro .

Yes, anything that is detrimental to a human being needs change. I haven't read in any management books that this practice should be propagated. And even if it is, then we don't need no capitalism. Human rights can't be compared to profits....

Managing people is tough probably beause there is no science behind it. The same stimulus can yeld amazingly different responses from different individuals even sometimes from the same individual. There are too many variables to take into account - the personal value system, the society, the culture, personal circumstances, family issues, feelings etc.. So it is nearly impossible to predict how someone will behave given a particualr event. Yet we have to get work done, we have to plan and this involves prediction of desired behaviour. And somehow there seems to be a framework on which we can base people management -  I have dug through my experience and that of some of my esteemed friends a...

Netagiri Vidyalaya: Educate Politicians K S VENKATARAMAN When Independent India opted for adult suffrage, and then again when the voting age was reduced from 21 to 18, a number of people became concerned; and many of them strongly protested these measures. The history has proved that their protests were justified. Many Indian citizens do not have any idea about their voting rights. Without knowing the value of their votes, they vote for the wrong persons. If there is one honest politician to tell them what is the right thing to do, there are thousands of cut-throat politicians to misguide them, taking advantage of their ignorance. They use anything like religion, caste, language, region etc...

We all “Talk the Talk”. We understand that we must introduce accountability into the organization if we have any hope of achieving our objectives. Yet, many companies struggle, some unknowingly, with this concept for many different reasons. Long term employees can become complacent, competencies can be limited, a free pass is sometimes given for a variety of reasons and the “Peter Principle” is still alive and in existence today; promoting people beyond their ability to perform.I believe that many employees, often the majority, understand the concept and want to be held accountable. But, what about those that don’t? Here are some simple concepts that may help you “Walk the Walk”. · Make sur...

Bullying is Very Bad K S VENKATARAMAN   Almost 30% of youth in the United States (or over 5.7 million) are estimated to be involved in bullying as either a bully, a target of bullying, or both. In a recent national survey of students in grades 6-10, 13% reported bullying others, 11% reported being the target of bullies, and another 6% said that they bullied others and were bullied themselves. 1 It is very common to see older children, especially boys bullying those who are younger and physically weaker. In schools and many public places this is a frequent occurrence. The bigger boys would bully the youngsters; what usually begins as a mild form of teasing would develop into humiliating, sco...

Came across this beautiful story and wanted to share it with you all. Brilliant insight into the way we live our lives! One day I hopped into a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call 'The ...

This question has been bugging me for quite a while. “Why are Indians afraid of change!” most of the time, when change comes knocking they get all defensive. I have worked with corporate, MNC and also with start-up companies and during my years of tenure I have found that majority Indians are very resistive to change. To tell you the truth I don’t see the point in blaming them because it is not only their managers it’s our society and our mindset which has taught them to be that way. I work in Bangalore, the IT capital of India. That’s about it, it’s just the name! Nothing more! The mannerism, ethics and common workplace manners is some of the things that we as Indians don’t practice. Sure,...

In many ways, a manager has to be a leader, so therefore a manager will have many of the traits that a leader does. However, I feel the term 'manager' applies primarily to business, it's in a manager's best interest to lead his co-workers effectively, encouraging them to achieve their goals and targets. In my experience, a leader is more of a social thing; more associated with team work, too. Go to Discussion http://lnkd.in/wUJe5E
