Benjamin H Brewster once said “lawyer starts life giving $500 worth of law f or $5, and ends giving $5 worth f or $500”. Interestingly, F W Tayl or father of scientific management would have referred the above condition as misalignment of labor, task and rewards system. A close look would have a few similes between what is called as principles of scientific management and the purpose of outsourcing since both concepts promote division of work (specialization), de-skilling of worker and dehumanization of workplace that are key f or process excellence in business. Most of us know that virtues of outsourcing are well recognized in the information age today be it about exploiting location adv...

Law firms are in for a stiff out-of-court challenge. A legal firm may sound good on a student’s resume when he starts his career, but better growth opportunities and flexible working hours may clinch the argument in favour of a shift to a legal process outsourcing firm. Sreyashi Sen, who has been working with a Mumbai-based LPO firm for the past one year, believe professionals working in such firms have chosen a better life for themselves. “The money is good, working hours are fixed (eight-hour shifts), and one can rise to managerial levels,” she says. But an LPO firm may not initially sound all that glamorous as a career option, as most of the 77 students of National Law School in Bangalor...

Facts about "Jana Gana Mana" - Just a thought for the National Anthem! How well do you know about it? I have always wondered who is the "adhinayak" and "bharat bhagya vidhata", whose praise we are singing. I thought might be Motherland India! Our current National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana" is sung throughout the country. Did you know the following about our national anthem, I didn't. To begin with, India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, was written by Rabindranath Tagore in honour of King George V and the Queen of England when they visited India in 1919. To honour their visit Pandit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included, which are in praise of the King and Queen. (And most of us think it is in the praise of our great motherland!! !) In the original Bengali verses only those provinces that were under British rule, i.e. Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha etc. were mentioned. None of the princely states were recognised which are integral parts of India...

India has formally cleared the biggest-ever Indo-US defence deal, the $4.1 billion contract for 10 C-17 Globemaster-III giant strategic airlift aircraft. All decks for the almost Rs 19,000-crore deal, which will support over 22,000 jobs in the US as Barack Obama himself put it, were cleared last month. On Monday, the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by PM Manmohan Singh gave the final go-ahead for the contract, under which the 10 Globemasters are to be delivered to IAF between 2013 and 2015. The $4.1 billion deal, in fact, could well become even bigger at a later stage. "They are fantastic aircraft, which we chose after a deep study of what all was available in the world market...After the first 10 Globemasters, we will examine the option to go in for another six,'' IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik told . Capable of carrying a maximum payload of 77.5 tonnes, which can include combat vehicles, artillery guns and battle-ready troops, the Boeing-manufactured Globemasters will...
