I believe that apart from SMS and MMS, idle-screen advertising is also used by many companies. When the phone is in idle mode many ads would come on to the mobile screen. So this is also a distribution channel used by mobile advertisors.

Indian retailing industry has seen phenomenal growth in the last five years (2001-2006). Organized retailing has finally emerged from the shadows of unorganized retailing and is contributing significantly to the growth of Indian retail sector. Also India has topped the AT Kearney’s annual Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) for the third consecutive year, maintaining its position as the most attractive market for retail investment. Critical Highlights of Indian Retail Sector: Organized retail will form 10% of total retailing by the end of this decade (2010). From 2006 to 2010, the organized sector will grow at the CAGR of around 49.53% per annum. Cultural and regional differences in India are the biggest challenges in front of retailers. This factor deters the retailers in India from adopting a single retail format. Hypermarket is emerging as the most favorable format for the time being in India. The arrival of multinationals will further push the growth of hypermarket format,...

Private labels V/s national brands-The undercurrent battle! This is very interesting to note that what is making national brands vexing is not the competitors alone but the surge of private labels which seems to be eating out major chunk of the pie, traditionally a part of the appetite of the former. Private Label Manufacturer's Association categorizes PL manufacturers into 4 main categories: Large national brand manufacturers that utilize their expertise and excess plant capacity to supply store brands. Mall, quality manufacturers who specialize in particular product lines and concentrate on producing store brands almost exclusively. Often these companies are owned by corporations that also produce national brands. Major retailers and wholesalers that own their own manufacturing facilities and provide store brand products for themselves. Regional brand manufacturers that produce private label products for specific markets. In 2008, private labels had taken over 25% to 50% in...

A 28 year old, Divya Narendra, son of an Indian immigrant doctor couple in the U.S., has moved to courtroom in battle with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He believes that he, and not Mark Zuckerberg, came up with the idea of social networking website Facebook. Narendra, along with his former Harvard University classmates Tyler Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss, has charged Zuckerberg with stealing the idea they conceived over a year, when they were students at Harvard University, reports Ishani Duttagupta from The Economic Times. Inset: Divya narendra with winkelwosses Narendra said, "I spent almost one year developing the concept and searching for programmers along with two of my classmates to build what was then called Harvard-Connection.com, which was a social network for Harvard students which was to expand to other schools. When I heard about Mark Zuckerberg for the first time in the fall of 2003, he seemed like a natural fit to join our team. Three months later, Facebook...

Traditionally retailing in India can be traced to the emergence of the neighborhood Kirana stores catering to the convenience of the consumers, an era of government support for rural retail: Indigenous franchise model of store chains run by Khadi Village Industries Commission, 1980s experienced slow change as India began to open up economy. Textiles sector with companies like Bombay Dyeing, Raymond's, S Kumar's and Grasim first saw the emergence of retail chains. Later Titan successfully created an organized retailing concept and established a series of showrooms for its premium watches. The latter half of the 1990s saw a fresh wave of entrants with a shift from Manufactures to Pure Retailers. For example Food World, Subhiksha and Nilgiris in food and FMCG; Planet M and Music World in music; Crossword and Fountainhead in books. Post 1995 onwards saw an emergence of shopping centers, mainly in urban areas, with facilities like car parking targeted to provide a complete destination...

A brand is a name that distinguishes a product from others. It has its own identity in the market with its symbol and tagline. When we talk about brands in rural markets some of the names which come to our mind are Rajdoot Bikes,Ghari Detergent,Dolly TV and chic shampoo etc Findings indicated that good quality, value for money and sense of identity with brand were likely to act as key determinants of a FMCG brand in rural India. Better finish and good looks, recommendations from retailers were found be key determinants of a consumer durable brand in rural India. Lets throw some light on agro inputs also like pesticides, fertilizers, manure, seeds, tractors, harvesters, pumps and threshers etc. In this regards marketers are following market specialization strategy.HYV seeds are also becoming popular among the farmers. It is a known fact in rural areas that price plays an important role in rural markets for purchasing the products. Now the New Era of marketing is changing the...
