From satellite communications to cell phones, to keyless entry in cars, wireless is rapidly becoming the most profound technology of our age. However, unlike other prominent new developments such as plasma-screen televisions and iPODs, wireless is a background technology. It is a basic fabric for how electronic devices work together and, by freeing us from cables and wires, it is changing the way we use these devices. Try to imagine for a moment the television-viewing experience without that ubiquitous wireless device which we all take for granted — the remote control. Whether we notice it or not, wireless technology is everywhere and is changing the way we live, work and play. One such wir...

Most of us see airport security as a pain. Some of us even feel violated. When you see the below pictures, you'll understand why they want our cell phones through the x-ray machine. If you get asked to test your cell phone at the airport, this is the reason. Cell phone guns have arrived.  And they are real.  Beneath the digital phone face is a .22 caliber handgun capable of firing four rounds in rapid succession using the standard telephone keypad. European law enforcement officials are stunned by the discovery of these deadly decoys. They say phone guns are changing the rules of engagement in Europe. Only when you have one in your hand do you realize that they are heavier than a regular ce...

I DO NOT KNOW HOW FAR THESE ARE TRUE 4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO   There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. While Wi-Fi has been working great in most downtown areas where antennas and computers are in close proximity but the Wi-Fi signal is not strong enough to cover a wide area or penetrate through brick apartment buildings. Wi-Fi systems have not been delivering on its promised performance. Hartford officials have been forced to put its municipal internet project on hold and hope WiMAX will serve as an alternative.... There are about 2 million broadband users in India today, and analysts say that the number will grow to 30 million users by 2010. Since the most vexing problem of providing broadband access is the last mile, WiMAX is seen as crucial in reaching these numbers.....sensing this oppu...

Dear friends,        I am a science fiction writer. I dabble in indian fiancial systems too. Primarily my lure and love for science is more than anything i am interested in. To many science fiction may appear flights of fancy or fantasy. To me it is not so. My science fictions all have science as ingredient with a future speculation/theory.       Many science fictions have become realities. Take the case of moon travel. Jules verne foresaw journy to moon and wrote his science fiction "From the earth to the Moon". Arthur C.Clarke wrote about geostationary satellites.      Simply put, Science Fiction is science blended with fiction. It requires a special imgaination and scientific bent of mind to come up with a science fiction. A science background is essential to write science fictions as one has to grasp the nuances of science to enlarge on the ideas conceived.      Science fiction has come to be accepted as a literature by itself. It is dubbed as a literurate ideas with current...

My  salutes to Mr Narayana Murthy and Mr Mashelkar! Today in Economic Times the brain storming article having same heading made me really excited and highly hopeful towards future of application of researches in science and technology in commercial field. As in my whole career I felt that its lagging too much in our country (except southern parts of India).Whatever researches are going on in big government institutes remain in journals and proceedings of seminars.Very few come up in application. While crores of rupees are spent every year by many funding sectors viz; UGC,CSIR,DBT and many more. Today after reading views of Mr Narayan Murthy and Mr Mashelkar I felt really supportive from their side as I have requested in many seminars and meetings about this innovation. Mr Narayan Murthy: What we really require is science, technology and innovation policy.Innovation is mind to market, concept to commercialisation. In the rest of the world you see that is happening. Mr Mashelkar: Human...
