MVNO's which are mostly a European thing and the GSM phenomenon, and with many simple resellers in the US gaining the popularity, and it is likely that the concept will catch on in the US and other parts of the world as well for the Mobile Virtual Network Operator the (MVNO). A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a mobile operator that does not own its own spectrum and usually does not have its own network infrastructure. Instead, MVNO's have business arrangements with traditional mobile operators to buy minutes of use (MOU) for sale to their own customers. India already has close to 250 million wireless subscribers . At a growth rate of mere 26% YoY by 2010 we will have 500 million subscribers. I really fail to understand the entry of new Telecom operators - Unitech Ltd, Videocon backed Datacom Ltd, Essar group backed ShippingStop Dot Com Ltd and Shyam-JSFC Sistema. What do these operators think of Wireless Business ? Is it like Setting up an NBFC or IT/BPO company and make announcements to drive the stock prices higher ? You got it right. As early as in 1996, while I was General Manager in BPL Mobile, I have successfully experimented Virtual Mobile networking concept and wanted to implement it. It was enough to have one HLR and one billing sytem for all 4 networks...
