Blessing in Disguise for UPA By Rajeev Sharma The Indian media has been missing the wood for the trees in its commentary on two recent developments: the Supreme Court order on setting up a special investigation team to probe and recover black money stashed abroad, and opposition criticism of the government for allowing civil society to usurp parliament’s right to make laws on the Lokpal (ombudsman) bill issue. Both these developments are in fact blessings in disguise for the beleaguered United Progressive Alliance government. Truly, the scenario is “Blessing in the Disguise” for UPA-II. While the Supreme Court’s intervention is a “blot” to the Governance, this Government has got a “breather” now, after setting up of “SIT” under the supervision of two eminent retired...

Unhealthy competition drives even self-proclaimed honest people to attempt dis-honest practices. Value system is degenerating! We need a thorough over-hauling in our thought processes.

I think no one can influence your ethics and change your values. so being dishonest and selfish is not at all an acquired trait. In the words of Gandhiji, "don't let anybody walk into your mind with their dirty feet."

Today I read these three diferrent news story related to environment. 1. Desert geopark in China : What is a geopark ? Geopark is a place where rare geological landforms are preserved in an undisturbed state and where low impact recreation, scientific research, and educational activities can be pursued. The total planned area for this geopark is said to be 630.37 square km. It will be functioning as a museum as well as as scientific research center. 2. World Car free day : On September 22nd 200 cyclists celebrated World Car Free day by using cycles. This was an attempt to keep traffic jam and pollution at bay. Though the event went almost unnoticed and no similar effort was seen anywhere else. I wonder why do such news go unnoticed when certain channels are busy showing what do star eat and how thye go to the gym and what do they wear. I was surprised to see zero comments in the article where I read this news. I wonder what kind of news do people normally look for? 3. Britan will...

Traders Crisis Averted As I noted yesterday , Indian and Chinese diplomats have been working to avert a potential flashpoint between the two giant Asian neighbors over two detained Indian businessmen. And, after some fevered negotiations, it seems like they’ve managed it. The two Indians, Deepak Raheja and Shyamsundar Agrawal, were reportedly being held hostage by Chinese traders in the city of Yiwu after the owner of the company they worked for, a Yemeni national, apparently fled after failing to clear his debt to the Chinese traders. The traders had been insisting that Raheja and Agrawal must pay the money as they finalized the transactions. When the Indian traders refused they were reportedly forced to drink their own urine . The incident risked sparking a diplomatic row between the two countries, with one of the captive businessmen raising the stakes by apparently promising to commit suicide if the Indian government didn’t step in and evacuate them to Shanghai within 24...
