I found an interesting article in CPMA which highlights on the resolutions IT portfolio vendors will adopt, Found it quite interesting , hence sharing it with all. Stop saying things like 'Manage your corporate portfolio like a portfolio of stocks' This oversimplified comment is dangerous in addition to being meaningless. Dangerous because the corporate portfolio is made up of investments aka projects whose valuation, risk-reward profile, diversification benefits and other characteristics are much less known. While stocks and mutual funds have a great deal of historical data, 'corporate projects' don't have this. That said, even with the data that exists for stocks and funds, personal p...

Traditionally organization that doesn’t maintain portfolio of business appropriately faces natural life cycle of corporate life i.e. start-up, growing, mature decline phase however if corporate would like to grow consistently throughout their life cycle then they have to chose update portfolio of business strategy continuously appropriately. It is easy to make business strategy for a foreseeable future based on reasonable assumption about development in markets, technologies, regulation predictable economic situation however after the latest financial crisis recession, future is very unpredictable uncertain, so classic business strategy approach doesn’t works in an uncertain environment. In...

The other day I was in a restaurant and saw a sign advertising "Sliders Fridays." From what I gathered, they offered a deep discount on tiny hamburgers, called sliders, on Friday nights. The interesting thing about this discovery is that I own the restaurant and it's the first I knew of it. (Stacey's at Waterford: www.eatatstaceys.com ) I don't just own the restaurant. I also manage it, although I use that term loosely. I've taken the concept of hands-off management to the next level. Most of the time I have no idea what the staff is up to. As a well-known critic of managers, I painted a big red bulls eye on my back when I started managing the restaurant. For the first year I was involved in the details...
