About " Product Safety – On the Critical Path to a Manufacturer’s Success" topic:

I was reminded again of how critical product safety is while listening to the news this morning as another popular car's safety is being questioned.  Product recalls have become all too commonplace and it seems items are scrutinized even more closely.  Clearly this is a serious issue, since Manufacturers are often indirectly responsible for a consumer’s safety and even their life.

Recent recalls exist in almost all product categories – the most recently publicized have included cribs, toys, automobiles and food.  Besides the ethical responsibility to provide a safe product, a manufacturer’s reputation and brand integrity is also at risk, leading of course to an immediate decrease in sales and loss in market share, and often major litigation.

So, let us discuss everything about product safety, and is there an overhaul of sorts which is needed in Manufacturing industries, to make products even more safer than ever.

I agree Ms. Mridula, but, what after post production and post sales. I think this is a healthy trend which is starting off lately. Let it be a design change or a defective material used in production, instead of leaving the customers to mend for...

Well trial and error is one method, but if something like a break or an accelerator fails the results could be fatal. This is where six sigma methodology should be brought in. One has to really think through all the failure modes. FMEA would help...

Implement Q M S in all seriousness this automatically includes aplying S P C, customer feedback, comprehensive testing  etc etc. The mistake occurs when seemingly small errors from design acceptance to material testing are taken lightly and...

Yes,I agree totally agree that a thorough quality check is to be done at the each stage of production and a final quality check to be done before release the product into the market. Instead of going in a rat race to release new models the...

Fundamentally, your ideas are sound....that is Q.C. But Q.C is what we make of it. In a complex system like a car, there are thousands of parts. A part by itself may have certain failure modes. When you add another part to it, you have more modes...

Be truthful about the bad quality which has led to the recall, act quick and effectively as there is no point in recalling a product months after it has become the hot topic, reward the loyalty of the consumer who bought the initial bad product...

Written by Nisan Gabbay Facebook was launched in February 2004 by Harvard undergrad students as an alternative to the traditional student directory. Its popularity quickly spread to other colleges in the US by word of mouth, and the site now registers close to 15M monthly UVs and over 6B page views per month. Facebook has completed two rounds of venture financing at very high valuations, the first at a valuation of ~$100M and the second at ~$550M (valuations are unconfirmed). These valuations were driven by the multiple acquisition offers that Facebook has reportedly turned down (the latest was a rumored $750M offer). Facebook is already generating significant revenue, so despite all the valuation and web traffic metric hype, it has also established a very real business. Interviews conducted: Noah Kagan, early product manager for Facebook. Noah will soon release an e-book on Facebook, with good insight on the social networking space. You will be able to download the book at Noah s...

The King is ailing, who will succeed the King? That is of course the question on the mind of Apple’s shareholders, employees and to a lesser extent its customers and clients (who will jump to a Droid or Google, if and when they create products that excite and service them as well as Apple products). Despite protestations and reassurances from Jobs and Apple COO, Tim Cook, and despite their not just weathering, but thriving during Jobs-less times, an Apple without Jobs makes many nervous to their core. If we were to think of Jobs not as a unique and irreproducible person, but as a mindset, skill set and capacity that could be deconstructed and then modeled, not only could Apple continue its amazing growth, but other companies might follow suit. Much has been written about Jobs trying to figure out his “secret sauce” so that others might use it to propel their companies and careers to extraordinary outcomes. 1.     Dropped out of Reed College 2.     Calligraphy 3.     Psychedelics...
