About "Supply Chain Management: Opportunities & Challenges" topic:

Supply chain management process which has planning, implementing, and controlling the operations of the supply chain as efficiently as possible. Supply Chain Management which spans all the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and semi-finished/finished goods from point-of-origin to point-of-consumption. But in the global meltdown like this we are faced with the challenge of reducing inventory and associated costs across the supply chain.

So the above issue requires excellent planning and usage of tools that can help simulate the scenarios and decide optimum inventory levels, demand forecasting, and perturbations in the manufacturing line. All these need to be achieved with a set of constraints in which the manufacturing plant operates. So what are some of the challenges and opportunities in the area of supply chain management. RFID is merely a technology which aims primarily to track consignment along the logistics channel. It makes cross docking and inter depot transfers much more easier. Its just a lubricant to smoothen the supply chain process a bit; but not a panacea.

Hi Friends Kindly find my views and thougths why Supply Chain planning is needed for comapnies. If we are sure of this question, then we all understand the importance of the Supply Chain Planning.   --'Delivery time to customer' is shorter than 'Lead Time' --Complex Supply Networks and Production Processes --Collaboration with multiple partners (Inbound as well Out bound) --Growing Customer Expectations of real time commitment --Unplanned Events and Exceptions --Balance actual customer demand with available supply --Optimize Supply Chain (Lean Supply Chain) --Balance optimize supply and demand --Achieving above in profitable and efficient way

1. Selfishness In today’s world, it is not about your organization versus your competitor’s organization. It is your supply chain versus your competitor’s supply chain. Therefore, it’s essential to eliminate the boundaries between organizations and make sure you and your supply chain partners are really working as one to increase customer satisfaction and market segment. Share information and assure that all links have a common, wholelistic view of the entire supply chain. 2. Short Sightedness The traditional approach of supplier and customer revolving doors is counter productive. Instead, look at the big picture and establish a strategic plan for supply chain evolution so that you are maki...

Private labels V/s national brands-The undercurrent battle!   This is very interesting to note that what is making national brands vexing is not the competitors alone but the surge of private labels which seems to be eating out major chunk of the pie, traditionally a part of the appetite of the former. Private Label Manufacturer's Association categorizes PL manufacturers into 4 main categories: Large national brand manufacturers that utilize their expertise and excess plant capacity to supply store brands. Mall, quality manufacturers who specialize in particular product lines and concentrate on producing store brands almost exclusively. Often these companies are owned by corporations that also produce national brands. Major retailers and wholesalers that own their own manufacturing facilities and provide store brand products for themselves. Regional brand manufacturers that produce private label products for specific markets. In 2008, private labels had taken over 25% to 50% in...

Hi Friends, I am sharing with the reviews of IBM on work culture, growth prospects salary, done by their employees. Please share your views. A Project Manager wrote: What I like about IBM: "IBM offers a very flexible working environment. In most cases, no one will ask you what time you come or go from office. Neither the logs of the swipe card will be analyzed to take some action against you in normal circumstances. In special circumstances, the company can even allow you to work from home. No blocking of internet or phones . All in all, you are "not" working in a jail. It has a wealth of knowledge..... " What I don't like about IBM: "Sometimes you feel that there are too many processes to follow. The company is so huge that it is a challenge to make people aware of existing processes. I have often seen it happening that sometimes small groups within IBM try to develop their own processes, often unaware that such a best practice already exists and can be leveraged. Saying no is perhaps the most important productivity tool that exists. Saying no is an art. It is also perhaps the most difficult thing to do for most people. I used to dread the occasions where I knew I will have to say no and I used to prepare for such situations for days. Now, I almost look forward to saying no to people and I actually enjoy the process! Find out how the change happened. 1. You are doing everyone a favour by saying no. Whenever you are saying NO to someone, remember that it is for their benefit! By saying no, you are • Giving the person an opportunity to look for someone who can do the job better. • Avoiding negative feelings about the person. 2. Visualize the alternative (to saying no) in vivid detail. • You will feel bad and will curse yourself for accepting the task. • You will do a bad job. • You will hate the person for putting this on to you. • The person will hate you for doing a bad job. • You should not have said yes, if you were not going to do a good...

"2 bananas cost 50 cents, banana dessert costs 10 dollars" Marketing is story-telling of any selling proposition beyond the obvious. A grand chef can change the total perception, price and taste of 2 bananas by infusing value in them through his skill. Two bananas cost 50 cents. But the same simple bananas can be transformed into a terrific dessert costing anywhere from $10 to $50 depending on the chef’s reputation. His repute gets built over time from his proven quality and taste he conjures up that his guests perceive and regard highly.  Marketing is exposing the excellence of the banana dessert the chef creates by transforming two basic bananas. Of course, the dessert has to have truth and ingenuity that end-customers can recognize and take seriously. End-customers have to believe in that dessert and its quality excellence, it must work well for them, and it must look good. This is what marketing is. You can read the complete article here.
