About "Teaching vs Learning...India's bane" topic:

The biggest problem with the sysytem in India is our need to "teach".The sound bytes are so volumounous that there is no time to think .

We are a nation that believes that erudition lies in the noise a teacher makes-so it becomes one man show all the time

Are the kids learning?who cares.all we want to know is :is the teacher teaching?

And then one fine morning because the kid is 17 or 22 or whatever and we would like to see a creative, innovative self thinker and atarter-from where will such a product appear from?

Go to an Engineering college or a PG course-and the teacher is still teaching. No ,we do not encourage self learning or discovery

For we cannot afford to make a mistake

What we need is more learning less teaching

May be I partially agree with Smita. Higher the career peak you dream within short span of life, we have to make the proper judgement on our investment towards Education. Yes, if the schools are charging lakhs of rupees for primary education, it...

these reforms were incorporated after mr Sibbal becomes hr mininster. They increase burden on teachers as no one can measure abstract skills just on marks scale. our system generated great workers in demand abroad and these reforms do no good.

I agree with that, Teaching should be treated as a 'Responsibility'. Its also a job, its a career, but more than that its a service just like one being in an army.

“We are travelers of the path of blooming consciousness. Staying in between beginning and the end of the path, acquiring knowledge of the whole path and the ultimate truth is impossible. Even though, one is able to reach the end –isn’t able to make known us about the whole and the ultimate truth.   First time, we go forward– towards any imaginary target, on the path of life, holding different beliefs. Gradually in this way– with increasing experience and knowledge, when we become more conscious, we advance following the way of science and rationality, –supposing all are seeming truth, giving up beliefs –largely, towards the aim of true self-development.   In this manner, after passing over much more distance, –with increasing more consciousness, gradually step by step– one time we come near the truth. Then holding the hand of some truths or partly truth, –we advance to the aim of absolute truth.   In fact, the entire route is the way of blooming consciousness. We– in our different...

Beautiful Thought by Lord Buddha     Once Buddha was traveling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, "I am thirsty. Do get me some water from the lake." The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, "How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?" So he came back and told Buddha, "The water in there is very muddy. I don't think it is fit to drink." After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake. The disciple went back, and found that the water was still muddy. He returned and informed Buddha about the same. After sometime, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back. This time, the disciple found the mud had settled down, and the water was clean and clear. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha. Buddha looked at the water, and...

An old man, staying in a small south Indian town came to visit his son in Bombay recently. The son in his early thirties is a successful businessman living with his wife and son. The father, having spent most of his life at his birthplace, hardly understands a splatter of Hindi or English, forget Marathi. But he doesn't care. 'I have come here to spend a few days with my son and his family. I don't have to go out and socialize with the city people,' he said. But the son is very excited about his father's rare visit to Bombay. He wants to make the best of it. He and his wife want to show him around the city. And yes, the son enjoys those evening hours too, when  he and his father go out and sit in a good bar, sipping their favorite  drink. Last week he was in a very good mood. 'Let's go to a five star hotel's bar tonight,' he told his father. It was a beautiful evening. Talking about everything under the sun they had a few drinks. As usual they were offered some salad, peanuts,...

What is stopping you from getting what you want in life? Your friends? Your family? A sense that failure – or success – might change your life and that feeling uncomfortable? A sense that the people around you might disapprove of you aiming for what you want, of you succeeding or failing. Essentially it boils down to fear. The big roadblock, sometimes the massive wall in the middle of road that keeps you from getting what you want. How to overcome it? Here´s some useful ways I have found so far. 1. Taking small steps This is good for fear that can seem overwhelming at first. For instance the strong feeling – it can almost feel like a flight or fight-response – just before doing public speaking or asking someone out for a date. If you´re for instance nervous socially you might not feel able to ask people out on dates right away. The fear of being rejected and that others might think less of you if you get turned down can make many of us feel unable to ask the question. A solution...
