Lean Methods are nothing but optimised process keeping in mind following paramenters 1) Cost 2) Quality 3) Delivery Here for example for production best lean process would have been single piece flow. hence infact we are saving money by reducing...

As part of a new LEI research project on lean management, I have been visiting with a number organizations well along in lean transformations. I ask the leaders of these initiatives about their methods, their experiences to date, and their trajectories. Then I take a walk along one or more of their value streams to observe performance and to talk with line managers about their perspectives on the lean leap. Here’s a typical story from a recent visit:   Organization A has an ambitious 'lean six-sigma' program for the whole enterprise. As seems to be increasingly common, it is a consolidation of initially separate lean and six-sigma programs into one unified activity, reporting to a vice pres...

Sort: Sorting leads to organization because the sort process requires people to remove any item that is not needed for production. This is a difficult task for most people because they are afraid to get rid of things and data. Items need to be red-tagged and then evaluated in terms of the value to the operations. It is best to work on one area at a time. Set in order: Again, this is organizational; it organizes each work area for maximum efficiency. To set in order means to arrange all the needed items so they are easy to use. They are also labeled so that anyone in the shop can find, use, and put them away. Setting in order eliminates a great deal of wasted time and energy. Shine: This ref...

Why is Lean so Popular? It is a commonsense approach to eliminate waste. No Big Investments, No fancy jargons, applicable to any business, be it product or service. Additional Budgets should be a no/no for implementation of Lean. All you need is...

A number of companies are using the lean concept in product development.Aberdeen Group's research is t indicating both the value and the rising adoption of lean. The presentations in  the product innovation summit touched on the lean concepts more or less in a good way. Last year's Product Innovation Summit featured Mark Edmonson of Raytheon speaking about the beginnings of a lean  strategy at his company, and this years Manufacturing Summit featured a presentation from Pfizer on Lean R D. So  lean outside of manufacturing has clearly been on the agenda. 'Taking Lean Principles Upstream' into R D was the discussed in a great way in the summit.   The  recent benchmark reports from Aberdeen G...

Becoming Lean has been a goal of most companies over the last few years. Why is Lean so popular? Lean delivers what companies really need in today’s highly competitive world - shorter lead times, improved quality, reduced cost, increased profit, improved productivity and better customer service. A company must take a hard look at manufacturing processes and practices to identify those that do not add business value. A lean approach to manufacturing works with ERP to help identify value and non-value components, with a focus on enhancing core values. Your SAP enterprise system provides a source of information for mapping out lean strategies, a mechanism for implementing new and more effectiv...

An organisation can innovate itself by following a define methodology for become a lean enterprise. Below process can be looked at to as one of the possible methodologies. 1. Define complete Supply chain 2. Draw your 3 year vision plan 3. Define and Prioritise areas of high potential in supply chain. 4. Start value steam mapping of defined areas and derive sub projects to followup. 5. Establish review mechanism. 6. Constanly look back to your Vision plan and keep innovating to achieve the same.
