Every creature has life, but only a few human beings have real life. Most venerable MahaManas says, “One who knows oneself rightly and has control over oneself she/he has real life.”

Are we Conscious? Chitra Banerjee wrote something on aesthetics today where she describes a male acting vulgarly at the Airports. This is a regular seen though not a replica but similar ones in all government and other offices and places for transactions like small shops of older version. I thought on this phenomenon with Psychology as the scale and came to the conclusion that people who resort to such vulgar acts are ‘unconscious’. Naturally I am not the first person to discover this. Marx in his treatise ‘Capital’ describes this phenomenon as ‘alienation’ or ‘estrangement’, where ones spirit gets diminished. Psychology calls this the Unconscious state. In unconscious state one has no fea...

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither...

‘The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth, dwelling deeply in the present moment and feeling truly alive.’ These days we have an abundance of luxuries, but I’ve found that excess actually decreases my enjoyment of life. Sure, we can get massive amounts of rich foods, feasting to our heart’s content, stuffing ourselves in alarming displays of gluttony … but is that really enjoyable on a regular basis? And yes, television can be fun, and so can ridiculously large parts of the Internet, but if it’s always on, if we’re always connected, doesn’t that lower the fun factor? Excesses lead to all kinds of problems, but the biggest problem is that life is less ...

Random Pick... Why me? Arthur Ashe , the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to the infected blood he had received during a heart surgery in 1983. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"? To this Arthur Ashe replied: "The world over - 50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals... When I was holding a cup I never asked God 'Why me?'. And today in pain I should not be asking God 'Why me?' " Happiness keeps you Sweet Trials keep you Strong Sorrow keeps you Human Failure keeps you humble and Success keeps you glowing But only Faith Attitude Keeps you going... “ Mistakes are painful when they happen. But years later, a collection of mistakes called experience leads us to the success...”

It usually takes us much longer to change our moods than we’d like it to take. Here are ten things you can do in ten minutes or less that will have a positive emotional effect on you and those you love. 1. Watch "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. See it online at Oprah.com. This is a deeply moving segment that may be the best ten minutes you've ever invested in front of a computer. 2. Spend a little while watching the sunset with your mate. Nothing extra is necessary. Just sit and take in the natural beauty of the sky and appreciate being able to share it with the one you love. 3. Sit quietly by yourself. It doesn't really matter where or when. Just let your feelings bubble up and then experience the thoughts flowing out of your mind. Clearing your head and heart will give you extra energy to get through the rest of the day. 4. Write a thank you note to your mate. When was the last time you thanked your partner for just being who he or she is and being with you? Doing this in...

What is stopping you from getting what you want in life? Your friends? Your family? A sense that failure – or success – might change your life and that feeling uncomfortable? A sense that the people around you might disapprove of you aiming for what you want, of you succeeding or failing. Essentially it boils down to fear. The big roadblock, sometimes the massive wall in the middle of road that keeps you from getting what you want. How to overcome it? Here´s some useful ways I have found so far. 1. Taking small steps This is good for fear that can seem overwhelming at first. For instance the strong feeling – it can almost feel like a flight or fight-response – just before doing public speaking or asking someone out for a date. If you´re for instance nervous socially you might not feel able to ask people out on dates right away. The fear of being rejected and that others might think less of you if you get turned down can make many of us feel unable to ask the question. A solution...
