Important Note : Using default settings, a wireless router allows anyone with any knowledge to easily connect to your network and use your internet connection and do what they will with your computers. But there are safe ways to use these devices. Enabling encryption, turning off ssid broadcasting, Mac address filtering, and changing your router's password are a must. High speed internet is a must. Buy the wireless router and any other necessary devices to connect to the router, such as pcmcia cards for laptops, usb devices, etc.   Steps Make sure your internet connection is working directly from your modem prior to connecting your router. Hook your router up as per instructions. Any wired ...

1) Secure your wireless router or access point administration interface  Almost all routers and access points have an administrator password that's needed to log into the device and modify any configuration settings. Most devices use a weak...

sorry,  but you have copied the steps from the link given by Ivan Bayross, CEO/MD/Director, Doss Software Solution  LINK http://ivansmusings.com/?cat=51 this doesnt seem good when professional statements of reputed person are over ruled.

I've put together a few simple things that anyone can do to secre their WLAN. Most techniques are fairly simple and do not require a P.Hd in I.T. to implement.  I've put the instructions on my Blog, http://ivansmusings.com/?cat=51 copy and paste...

Wireless In-security by Jeff Bonsteel The use of wireless networking, or Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) networking is on the rise. It is often carelessly installed, leaving a lot of folks vulnerable to some nasty perils. Hazards include disclosure of your private information, Internet access slowdowns, aiding cyber criminals, lawsuits and maybe even prosecution. Wi-Fi access is everywhere. It is so pervasive that in heavily populated regions there may be dozens, or even hundreds, of access points within a few blocks. An access point is the hardware used to accept network connections from PCs using wireless networking. Wi-Fi communication is...

Colleges and universities are on the spree on leveraging the maximum out of the power of WIFI, but the spread has not happened widespread though. But with today's wireless networking schemes such as 802.11b and 802.11g, promises far greater speed than its predecessors, it will definitely spread its invisible wings wider and farer. Wi-Fi usage in lower-level academic environments, like K-12 schools, is also expected to grow significantly during that time period, due largely to a need for enhanced security, which could be provided via wireless video surveillance, and that fact that more and more schools are instituting what ABI research calls 'anytime-anywhere learning.'. Global revenue from ...

A BBC video  shows that, once a phone has connected to an open network, the user's personal data can be vulnerable - for example, logging on to facebook would allow...

Very useful information, Sharad... Apparently, the key point to be noted is to connect to a network only if you trust it....

Thanks for sharing. This is yet another way an identity theft can happen in this digital world.

I realized the other day that creating a new company for the first time is a lot like whipping up a great pasta salad for the first time – you need a recipe, even though it may look simple. You know the basic ingredients, and you can visualize the results you want. Yet you may not be so sure where to start, and how to put it all together. More... http://short.to/22fo5 .

Social networking keeps on going crazy and many of us have managed to be online almost 24X7! Sharing on facebook, twitter or other places is fun for some and style for others and foe few of us it has become the way of life. This has brought the need for Smartphones and many of us in love with touch screens. iPhone and iPads are sold like crazy and so there are tons of apps available everywhere to do various things. I recently found this app which says " Walk Type Share "..At first I was like everyone does that then what is new in the app??!! It says "Walk Type Share is a messaging social networking application for iPhone and iPad to text message while walking and share through SMS, Facebook, Twitter, email and group messaging, using transparent keyboard with live camera background." I am not sure how is it good for us.. but new apps are worth a shot aren't they?? Whats your take on new apps coming up everyday..which ones do you recommend??

Security experts have discovered the biggest series of cyber attacks to date, involving the infiltration of the networks of 72 organizations including the United Nations, governments and companies around the world. The long list of victims in the five-year campaign include the governments of the United States, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Vietnam and Canada; the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN); the International Olympic Committee (IOC); the World Anti-Doping Agency; and an array of companies, from defense contractors to high-tech enterprises. "What is happening to all this data ... is still largely an open question. However, if even a fraction of it is used to build better competing products or beat a competitor at a key negotiation (due to having stolen the other team's playbook), the loss represents a massive economic threat." Jim Lewis, a cyber expert with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, was briefed on the discovery by McAfee. He said it was...
