I agree with rehman that wimax is better than 3G because a home WiMAX network connection is no different than a current WiFi connection, only faster and operable over larger distances. With  Intel integrating WiMax chipsets into notebook PCs next...

I think 3G is better It offers downloads of up to 70 Mbps as compared to the 15 Mbps that 3G provides. Mobile WiMax offers download speeds of around 20 Mbps.
Saud Rehman  |  Argues in support of  "Wimax"  |  2 years ago
I THINK THE FIXED VERSION 802.16d had matured completely now,and very very proven solutions exits for the same. Mobile wimax 802.16e is still to become completely stable and deployed extensively. But i definitely think it is better especially...

ya wimax does have that potential but 3G will continue to expand and be the dominant platform for the delivery of mobile voice and data services. Because wimax implementation has lots of technical challenges.
Rakesh Kumar Mohapatra  |  Argues in support of  "Wimax"  |  3 years ago
WiMAX has the potential to create new markets, change the scope of the Internet, revolutionize the mobile phone landscape, and upend empires.

MobileMesh is cheaper and running on a more available frequency....which adds intereference and downtime to the equation whereas WiMax provides a better QOS. It's a hard trade-off to swallow.....
Ted Green  |  Argues in support of  "MobileMesh (tm)"  |  3 years ago
My professional one is this: WiMax is licensed and will only be available to those who can buy licensed spectrum costing thousands to billions based on how much the planet can auction off the airwaves for, and not available for 99.99 percent of...

I do not think that they will lobby to stop Wimax because its entirely new technique and who knows that these companies might be in talks with each other for their range.
Subhankar Sanyal  |  Argues in support of  "Agree"  |  3 years ago
In my opinion they will try their level best to stop this technology as it will decrease their revenue. Already they are spending a lot of amount to buy the spectrum.

2007 should have been a banner year for the WiMAX community. The number of new trials and commercial deployments continue to grow. Cisco, until recently a WiMAX holdout, purchased WiMAX infrastructure vendor Navini. Device manufacturer d-link, a major player in Wi-Fi, announced plans to produce WiMAX embedded devices. Equipment vendors made progress on the mobile version of the standard. WiMAX even won a major battle with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in the second half of 2007. The ITU accepted 802.16e as an IMTU2000 or 3G standard. This is particularly important in Western Europe where auctions are often technology specific. By attaining 3G status, In-Stat feels this gr...

Back out of the virtual world for a minute, and you might wonder why all these silly people are running around with those RAZR phone-toys in all their various forms. Is this just a local anomaly? I think not. Take a trip in your wayback machines and you might see Motorola pioneering the radio tech that got us started down this path. Oh yeah, then they put a brilliant woman named Warrior in as the CTO, and that’s more than aesthetic. I think Motorola is doing quite well right now in the larger scheme. But recently when i read this interview with Padamsree Warrior, the CTO I got the real picture about motorola and their future plans... According to padamsree warrior.. WiMAX is no longer a big...

A femtocell —originally known as an Access Point Base Station —is a small cellular base station, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments. It connects to the service provider’s network via broadband (such as DSL or cable); current designs typically support 2 to 5 mobile phones in a residential setting. A femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable. The femtocell incorporates the functionality of a typical base station but extends it to allow a simpler, self contained deployment. FreeScale and Sequans have come up with a reference design that shrinks the form factors ,...

Telecom providers has done so many things to compete with 3g technology services , and even the laest WIMAX doesn seem to pose a very great threat to 3g for the next five years in the Asia/ Pacific market.   WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROBLEM?   Telecom providers introduced BWA (broadband wireless technology) technologies to tap into the wireless trend, accelerate wide market diffusion, and to provide consumers with an alternative or complementary value proposition. However, a lack of standardization and interoperability issues has not augured well in adoption rates for most proprietary BWA technologies. According to a survey Wi-Fi proved not to be a successful business model, but WiMAX is now gat...

It is my opinion that in order for WiMAX to gain popularity, the three largest mobile-subscriber-capacity countries in the world today, China, the US, and India, have to provide global interoperability in the same frequency range.I am borrowing the quote of Neil Armstrong where when landing on the moon he stated: 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind', WiMAX in idia is that big step.. There is no doubt that WiMAX is the way forward, in case India needs to reach out to all of its population within the stipulated time frame, it needs to act now... The Government's move to establish over one lakh community service centers would be the right approach for spreading broadband...

It's really Good to hear about Wi-Max. Already the hot spots are getting ready to offer their services to all areas of the Country. But I strongly feel that to penetrate the usage in India the pricing of End equipment to be lower. Of course this...

First lets understand what wimax is ...... WiMAX , the W orldwide I nteroperability for M icrowave Ac ce s s, is a telecommunications technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access. It is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, which is also called WirelessMAN . The name WiMAX was created by the WiMAX Forum , which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformance and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as 'a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.' Mobile WiMAX Wave 2’ which supports Multi In...

Language is perhaps the most important function of the human body – it allows us to get sustenance as a child, it allows us to get virtually anything we want as an adult, and it allows us many hours of entertainment through literature, radio, music, and films. This list (in order of least to most spoken) summarizes the most important languages in use today. 10 French Number of speakers: 129 million Often called the most romantic language in the world, French is spoken in tons of countries, including Belgium, Canada, Rwanda, Cameroon, and Haiti. Oh, and France too. We’re actually very lucky that French is so popular, because without it, we might have been stuck with Dutch Toast, Dutch Fries, and Dutch kissing (ew!). To say “hello” in French, say “Bonjour” (bone-JOOR). 9 Malay-Indonesian Number of speakers: 159 million Malay-Indonesian is spoken – surprise – in Malaysia and Indonesia. Actually, we kinda fudged the numbers on this one because there are many dialects of Malay, the most...
