I agree with Mr. Ashish Gandhi. India can be the best , provided all the wrongs that are there in our country can be corrected. I love India , but even in a marriage where I love my wife , if I see something that can be changed for the better , I...

I reckon the lines said by a sensible person in the past that a person cannot be deceived unless the he himself consents to be decieved. To be a bit more clearer, I quote the mordant tongue of my dear friend Chuck Doherty, “If a man is ready to blow, an aspirant will come even from the banks of Lake Titicaca hiring a cab, to make him blow.” “This country is full of people who are dangerously disciplined”, Doherty once lamented and it was about the people of India. He had always maintained that majority of the people of this country were poor sceptics and if there was a minority who looked like that, they were simply cynics. Although, I never understood initially what he meant, today I see s...

Gavaz tnx for the ref, the parallel writing is great. I liked the interpretation of the epic Ramayana. Where, the elder prince is viewed as a “Mortal” who did possess human qualities and capabilities to err also. If only we can become less...

Pakistan Plays China Card The war of words between the United States and Pakistan has intensified – and India for one is watching closely as the spat is bound to be a harbinger of things to come in Indo-Pakistan relations. Ties between the United States and Pakistan have been particularly strained since early May, when US Special Forces killed Osama bin Laden  in Abbottabad, deep within Pakistan. US-Pakistan sabre-rattling reached new levels on July 11, when Washington  announced  its decision to withhold $800 million in military aid to Pakistan, about a third of the planned total. The US move followed Pakistan’s removal of American military trainers and the curtailing of visas for US personnel. Pentagon spokesman Col. David Lapan  indicated  that the suspended aid could be resumed if Pakistan removed these two irritants. But a day later, Pakistani Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar came up with Islamabad’s tough response, warning  that the US move would force Pakistan to recall all of...

India has formally cleared the biggest-ever Indo-US defence deal, the $4.1 billion contract for 10 C-17 Globemaster-III giant strategic airlift aircraft. All decks for the almost Rs 19,000-crore deal, which will support over 22,000 jobs in the US as Barack Obama himself put it, were cleared last month. On Monday, the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by PM Manmohan Singh gave the final go-ahead for the contract, under which the 10 Globemasters are to be delivered to IAF between 2013 and 2015. The $4.1 billion deal, in fact, could well become even bigger at a later stage. "They are fantastic aircraft, which we chose after a deep study of what all was available in the world market...After the first 10 Globemasters, we will examine the option to go in for another six,'' IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik told . Capable of carrying a maximum payload of 77.5 tonnes, which can include combat vehicles, artillery guns and battle-ready troops, the Boeing-manufactured Globemasters will...

STORY WHICH MAKES US TO THINK Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness , Sadness , Knowledge , and all of the others , including Love . One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love. Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, “ Richness , can you take me with you?” Richness answered, “No, I can’t. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you.” Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. “ Vanity , please help me!” “I can’t help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat,” Vanity answered. Sadness was close by so Love asked, “ Sadness , let me go with you.” “Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!” Happiness passed by Love,...

Politics and government are treated as words with negative connotations in the Indian society. Interestingly, the same is not true for many countries in other parts of the world. In a first of its kind initiative, the Research Foundation for Governance in India (RFGI) has taken up the task of educating the young minds of Ahmedabad about how the political systems across the world work. Curtis Riep, a graduate in international relations from University of Calgary, Canada; Ramiro Gomes Monteiro, political sciences and history student at Utrecht University, Netherlands; Catherine See, student of international relations at the National University of Malaysia; Katie Farrer, bachelor of law and political science at University of Otago, New Zealand; Joshua Stark, student of international development from McGill University, Canada; along with Swar Shah, Apoorv Shah and Kanan Dhru of the RFGI team have been visiting different schools and colleges in the city. They interact with youths about...
