Finally, India's first 3G service has been announced by MTNL on 11th Dec 2008.

First 3G call was done using Motorola's MOTORAZR2 V9 Ferrari Special Edition mobile phone.

First to experience 3G services are the customers of MTNL in mumbai and New Delhi.

Hope to see the 3G all over INDIA very soon..

Kavitha here is an update for 3G: 3G services was announced in India a month ago but we shall see more delays in the launch, as 3G vendors still haven’t placed orders for equipments. “Bharti and Vodafone have calculated their infrastructure requirement but have not placed any order as the companies are still waiting for the policy (auction timeframe) to be announced. Telecom operators do not have an idea how much the spectrum will cost and probably that is one of the reasons why they are refraining from placing orders”

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) launched 3G mobile services from Chennai on 22/02/09 Sunday.

The national launch of the third generation mobile service in Chennai enables a range of upgraded services, including rich voice, data and video services, to the subscribers.

3G makes possible video streaming applications such as Live TV, movie downloads, high speed data download on mobile phones with 3G services enabled.

Callers can also see each other on their mobile phone screens, according to a press release from BSNL.

The new service will offer data speed of 2 Mbps against 144 Kbps available now over the GPRS and EDGE enabled mobile networks
