A day after he resigned, Santosh Sarode (31), a software engineer, allegedly strangled his two-year-old daughter before hanging himself to death at his three-bedroom apartment at Kudlu Gate near Electronics City here in the intervening hours of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile in a statement, the Infosys management said: “We are saddened by the unfortunate demise of one of our employees under tragic circumstances. Our sympathies and prayers are with the family of the deceased. Infosys will provide all necessary support to the family in their hour of grief.

Inisde story : Santosh Sarode was tortured by his TL and PM  and was pressurized to work till late nights and on weekends.. The Tl used to scold him literally and this abusive behaviour had mentally weakened him.

While leading newspaper Times Of India has not even revealed the name of the company .. Perhaps they have some family relation with Mr Murthy..Because they had another story about Mr Murthy's life and journey wiht Infosys.. Double standards!!

It is sad because the company plans to by-pass the action of TL here..

Meanwhile Santosh's wife is still in shock..

We have just one life.. Think before taking actions..

Really saddening story. As I mentioned elsewhere, the middle management is harassing young and bright employees. IT companies must try to put an end to this. But suicide is NOT the solution. I suggest that anybody being harassed by the middle management, post a descriptive note on Too Step. It helps. I pray God to give Santosh peace in the other world. My sympathies to Santosh's wife.

Infosys or any other organization they are Business Oriented & not charitable institutions, even in Govt.& PSU's now a days they are sacking the non performers
at Sr.Level by way of holding their increments, transfers to far-off places & VRS.
having said that it is the Employers responsibility to be clear & have proper system
in place with adequate compensation in such cases, that too with software cos.Like Infosys,TCS,Igate etc., where the work pressure and set standards are High & basically these Software guys are mild & sensitive could not cope-up with work pressure & family pressure, added to their owes Job-loss is looked as Stigma in our society.

Though they have passed thro Stringent measures at entry level, but could not sustain consistency in performance. No point in blaming TL he is also suppose to Deliver or quit or got sacked.Agreed, it may also be a ploy to get rid of unwanted employees but Employee should read the message properly & quit with negotiated compensation or by taking legal course of action.

Regarding the ouster of Mohan Das it is a risk to put a non-techie guy to lead the huge organization like Infosys which is a technological, software base co. at this stage, where they are facing huge competition. It was a good decision to get relieved of him otherwise there is a more chance of becoming bureaucratic & loose competitive
edge. I strongly suspect this kind of rash handling of staff has been started, when he was heading HR.

We pray 'the departed soul may rest in peace'.

No words to express shock and sadness. It will be good if the company take the TL and PM to task and take care of the family.

It is very sad and such incidences happens in most of the corporate companies the mistake
what the Top Management looks in to the profit only, they forget the employees are human beings and treat them as they are machines.Whoever be the responsible for such kind of situations should be punished severely.

It is really a issue / topic of research, as no of postings are available on social websites against Infosys.
May the soul rest in peace & GOD give courage to Santosh's wife .
Thanks for referral,Kavitha.

Very sad to have known about this. Managerial techniques are to refined in IT industry, particularly, when they feel a minute is money. TL or the PM, need to remind himself, that they are, also a soul here, to survive upon the dedication of these individuals. Managerial skill should aim at bringing performance not at the cost of Employees welfare. It should , simultaneously, concentrate on the interest of the employee & well-being. HOPE THAT INDUSTRY SUCH AS INFOSYS, FIND A WAY OUT TO OVERCOME THESE KIND OF FALL-OUTS.

Very depressing reading indeed.Infosys must explain the "expiry date" of their employees. It deserves full fledged inquiry and transparency.

Infosys depends entirely on its PR firm spin doctors to 'plant' favorable stories in media about their ethical standards. But in reality, Infosys is just another outsourcing giant, interested only to get higher returns for its shareholders and get more foreign clients. The recent, ouster of Mohandas Pai, as he was not made CEO, despite years of service...a crony of Narayan Murthy is now CEO...so such stories of suicides at infosys are not that surprising. Employees of Infosys are coerced to work unwillingly...under all pressure. The recent news of spat between Narayan Murthy and Mohandas Pai was well managed...infosys didn't let the media know truth in that matter and it was shown that Mohandas voluntarily resigned. This is the work culture of Infosys.

May Infosys make some trust for these pathetic family remains. May the middle managers counsel right ways to employees before loading them with tight targets.

Its a sad story. But I am surprised how can the Infosys top management and the board of Directors be so ingorant about the happenings and subsequent bad publicity to the company brand. Earlier also I heard a lot of stories of high handedness and bullying from the HR department and a lot of gossip and talks in social websites like orkut and facebook by the harassed employees. Just imagine the amount of loss company incurring whenever an employee commits suiside. 1st its loss of priceless employee who's been selected amongst the best of the candidates. All the money that the company has spent on one's induction and training. Set back to the project one was working on due to shortage of one of the team member. Expenditure on recruiting and training the new employee as replacement. Compensation that the company needs to give to the next of kin of the employee, etc, etc. I would straight way blame TL, PM, Project Head, Head of Department, HR head, and the CMD. Such incidences have become regular in infosys I think this is primarily because top bosses are sitting at the top of the Pyramid and just not bothered as to what's happening at the bottom or they are consciously ingoring it. They may have to pay a havy price sooner or later.

Truly sad story, if many facts mentioned above are relevant, having ruling IT and its brand equity, it is fair for INFOSYS to sack those TL and PM without any terminal benefits, if any solder of Infosys is reading me, it would be his great contribution to the departed soul to make my appeal to reach the top management of Infosys and punish the culprits at least by sacking the sick-minded asap.

Very sad ,its not only the IT companies but I should say all corporates should stop harassing their employees.if they want quality work they should be more employee friendly than money. But suicide is not the solution ,you are ending not only your life but the people related to you also suffers a life worse than death.
Its better to leave the job than your family.Life is like a roller coster ride ,must develop strength to overcome the fear.

Someone said: "Suicide is not chosen; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain."! Better, INFOSYS Management should take a cue from these recent deaths, institute a thorough "stress-oriented" study from across the cross-section of divisions. This is quite alarming now, which forces general public to think that the founders are side-stepping in order to escape the onslought arising out of such disturbed trend!
WHAT MESSAAGE DO YOU WANT TO CONVEY THROUGH THIS STORY?

DID ANY MEDIA PERSON/ CORRESPONDENT QUESTION INFOSYS TO GET CLARIFICATION WHAT WERE THE TRAGIC CIRCUMSTANCES (AS THEY STATED) UNDER WHICH THEIR EMPLOYEE COMMITTED SUICIDE?
  Commented by  Damodaran Subbarayalu, Project Manager, Vernalis systems    | 05 20 2011 08:35:42 +0000
Whereever you work, there will be pressure from TL & PM. But suicide is not the solution. If the individual is unable to handle the pressure, he/she can join an another firm . Probing deep will leed to the actual cause of the suicide. If he is unable to handle the pressure from TL/PM, why should he strangle his 2 yr old daughter? It looks absurd in blaming a company for the mistake done by him.

Any way my heartfelt condolences.

Harassment is a common story in almost all the Indian s/w companies. Escalating issues to upper dept. ( managers, hrs etc) is foolishness... because they already are aware of things, and in worst case they are a part of it.

In smaller companies it's easier to leave the company if the TL or Manager is a bully and causing harassment. But i can understand, it's difficult to leave a bigger company like Infosys, as person has already made it as a base of his marriage and future life prospects.

Sad to hear this. Infosys needs to do something to reign on the high pressure work culture and bullying. I have heard similar complaints from friends working here in the UK. Whatever the media story about Infosys is, I have this impression of them as a slave labour company: Indeed, I am not in IT, but this can't be good for the company.

i agree with RamaRao, Suicide is not a solution for any kind of problems or pressure. in all industry there will be someone to press us down but we should come up with our strength called hope, faith. now who is the looser in Santosh case, his wife and daughter. Government should take necessary action against all industry who made their employee's to sit for late nights.what benefit we are getting even if we sit late night? so we should raise our voice against extend work hours
