the practice of sending in an audio CD/DVD for your resume instead of the normal and expected paper resume, makes a HUGE impression. It won't work for everyone, but here are the rules and suggestions that I use;
  • Make certain that your audio is clear. There is nothing worse than listening to a CD that has terrible audio. I use my own semi-professional studio and suggest that if you are going to send in an audio resume, that you use a studio or at least do everything you can to make your voice sound clear.
  • Add slide, pictures, and other audio to accent your resume. The benefit a hiring manager receives from being able to hear (and possibly see) a potential candidate is huge. But to really make your audio resume stands out, consider adding some power point slides, pictures, and enhancing audio. You probably don't need to worry about copywright infringement, but to be safe, use royalty free music clips on your CD.
  • Send along a traditional paper resume and a guide with your audio CD. Just in case the person you are sending your CD to doesn't have the ability to listen to your CD, or doesn't want to, its safe to be traditional as well as a stand out applicant.
  • Add video with caution. Here's the problem: Every computer runs at different speeds, and having your audio not sync with your video can leave the viewer with the feeling that you did less than a professional job. Video streams can be tricky, and with all the viruses out there, many may not even look at your video resume.
  • If you are going for a sales position, make sure you sound energetic, positive, and, above all, CLOSE FOR THE INTERVIEW!!! More importantly, close for the position.

Listen, at the end of the day, the job market is truly dog eat dog. Kill or be killed! If you can do just one thing that others aren't doing, won't do, or can't do; then you just put yourself head and shoulders above your competition.
