I was unaware of high corruption level in bangalore. It was till my collegues bike was lost and he went to the Police station to complain.
And there it was, his bike was lying right there in the police station.. The Policemen told him to pay 10,000 or he would not get his bike back.. He was terrified but he told he will complain to higher authorities and the policemen laughed.. They said just one thing.. "Right now it is 10,00.. go to the higher authorities and the price will rise higher!!".. Shocked and surprised he went to the atm and brought the money and got his bike back..

Is this the situatuion everywhere??

I told my friend that too is responsible for this corruption.. To this he said, Don't think that you can fight these people who are backed up by even more powerful policticiains, or you might end up in terrible situations!!

Every tom , d and harry now carries a smart phone. Dint your friend have a slight thought to capture the conversation, or capture the video or take down the serial numbers of the notes he gave it to police? To beat a stick u need an axe !!! crying wont solve.

Thanks,Neelima for referral. This could become a fine quote 'your stolen bike costs 10,000'-------------- says Police. In such a "do and die situation",the sufferers prefer 'do' rather than 'die.'

& still we are talking about anti-corruoption revolution & all.
It shows that it is very easy to discuss such sensitive & important issue on social website, but hard to follow @ personal level.
Thanks for referral, Neelima.

As I have mentioned before the bribe giver is more responsible for corruption as he is initiating it. The bike must have been insured. It would have been better to lodge an FIR. If police refuse to register there is a procedure to get the complaint registered through a court. After FIR within 6 weeks the police have to give a final report on the basis of that insurance claim can be obtained. Yielding to corrupt practices only strengthens the corrupt. What will the Jan Lokpal Bill due if it has to tackle such petty issues. It is supposed to ensure action against corrupt Bureaucrats and Politicians and eradicate such elements from society. If it were to handle complaints against every second government employee it will become ineffective and die a slow death.

This is a trailer of corruption. In Delhi it is not possible but in other states probably it is. When the cm is corrupt what to talk about others.

In such a case I would have gone back without saying anything to any body and met some NGO who in turn would called the media. Things would have been fine.

Corruption status has undergone a sea change. Initially it was cover gesture under the table. But of late it is via phone sometime across the table, some time word of mouth, on Telephone, SMS (code word) and many methods which u and me may not know. Like WIKI leak there will some BIKI LEAK. IT IS NOT ONLY EVERYWHERE IT IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY. LET US WAIT FOR LOKPAL BILL

The very reason why people have come out on streets across the country in large numbers when Anna Hazare went on Fast unto Death to lay emphasis on Jan Lokpal Bill. No state in this country is free from such problems. The situation is even more alarming whether the States are ruled by the ruling or opposition parties.
That's why you must have contacts. Especially in police department. This will help you get the bike free of cost or price will be reduced. What an idea Sarji ?

Neelima I'm sorry to say that do not support or advise such Fools who are always encourage corruption if it is beneficial to them. He has not mention about the rank of policemen he negotiated, must be at lower level, I guess constabulary (class IV) or at the most Head constable/Asst.sub-inspector on the verge of retirement, who has released
the bike without proper record I am sure tomorrow some confusion has cropped up they pounce on him & get back his bike it is risky. Ask him to start pray.

It is always better to approach higher authority & get things legally done since they have discretionary power, if approach is good & convinced readily helpful to you in such cases. Even he could hv complained once his work done to the same authority.

This situation is very common in every police station around India. I my bike was stolen from a public gathering and later I found the same from nearby area. When informed police they wanted sweets as I found my bike back. this are the same people who had told me to forget about the bike and do not go for any case or else I will be in more trouble.
