On a lighter note I am posting this people, there are many bookies who are betting on Modi whether he will stay as IPL comissioner or whether he will be sacked from that position.

Bookies in Mumbai and Gujarat are betting on the ouster of Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi, who faces allegations of corruption and match-fixing, with rates climbing up to 16 paise from 35 paise by Monday evening. Bets on Modi’s continuation in office were at Rs 1.25.

While bets worth Rs 300 crore have been laid in Mumbai alone, an additional Rs 350-400 crore is expected from Gujarat, a Mumbai-based bookie said. The way the reward system works is that those in favour of Modi’s ouster will receive Rs 1.16 for every rupee they bet. With Modi’s fate likely to be decided soon, betting will be on through Tuesday night, the bookie added.

In Gujarat, bookies are active in Surat, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Bhuj, Jasdan and Vadodara. An Ahmedabad-based bookie told ET late on Tuesday evening, however, that betting rates on Modi’s ouster were at 20 paise in the city.Interest in betting circles has moved from IPL matches to former external affairs minister Shashi Tharoor’s resignation, Modi continuing as IPL commissioner and now, the outcome of the crucial BCCI meeting scheduled for May 2.

The current favourite is Vijay Mallya’s team Royal Challengers Bangalore, which is slated to play its semi-finals against Mukesh Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. The team is commanding 83 paise against 1.15 paise on Mumbai Indians.

While each IPL match beings in bets worth Rs 500-600 crore, two semi-finals and the finals alone rake in Rs 6,000 crore.

Modi has written his fate once he decided to bring down Tharoor. A Pandora box has been opened by him and it is not his preragative to close it. And all the wheeler dealers will be exposed in due course and hopefully punished. Modi too will go along with all of them But, IPL proved to be a commercially successful format and it will survive all of its foundes, mentors, etc. And finally, the poverty of a substantial portion of our popuation will not deter the rest of the population from having their entertainment, whether it is sports, cinema or whatever.

@ Mr. Prabhakar rao nice to see the different aspect of it and yes people who have benefits cant always think abt people who do not have any but it take some special effort to change things here....

@ Mr. Paul, i completely agree to the point that politicians should be stopped from holding positions in sporting arena and it should be held by a sports person who understands them in the first place still we see our sports people not having proper amneties, and we can expect them to win gold at olympics with pathetic infrastructure....

@ Mr. Manoj, Thats a billion dollar question that you have asked in the end, which i dont think I am the right person to answer it..

And yes IPL league was designed on the lines of EPL which is hugely successfull, but IPL is lacking transparency and this is getting them into the fix where they are finding it difficult to come out from that....and thanks all who have written their comments on this post....cheers all :)

After Latits scam, possibly he must have asked for a facilitation fee from the betters
community and if not given he will leak all the names on all sites and then say not to worry as " everything is under control"
On a serious note he must resign and face the truth.

Sports should not be treated as profit making centre that is why BCCI was getting Tax benefit. But the amount of money pumped in IPL shows that it has become more of profit making organisation than entertaining sports. This should be checked and someone found guilty should be sacked for betterment of sports.

IPL is a cool product. All it requires is a clean up. It has put excitement in life. not just the IPL but it will definitely open doors to other sports as well. How well these are marketed has to be seen.

It would be wrong to compare IPL and Indian poverty. IPL is not the cause of it. Its the politicians. All the tax payers money is looted by these guys by coming out with bogus schemes for poor and then eatin all the by themselves. All the flood hit areas the ministers ask 600-1000 crores for the flood relief. Do you think all goes to people. 1000 crores is a big amount to rehabilitate. but the situation is always the same, before or after the the flood. People are hungry on both the accounts.

the IPL league was planned in the lines of top football clubs around the world as well as that of baseball & volleyball. but the volume of currency involved in the auction as well as that in conducting the tournament somehow smacks of irregularities. so much money is involved in paying the players & other expenses & to think that sponsorship & selling TV rights can suffice the expenses is hard to believe. in our country where the impoverished population is still searching for that elusive extra bread, this is awful.

Thanks to Modi who created a cricket mania in our country. Bookies and gamblers need their topic and it is one for them. Many paradoxical situations go side by side in this country. I am waiting for my man who can create a situation exactly like Mr. Modi has created where rich will spent money on poor like they spent in cricket.

Hello Ayan, It is better Mr. Modi can resign by taking total responsibility instead of blaming somebody. May be he has contributed and created IPL for cricket lovers along with entertainment. He lacks the Leadership and accountability.

IPL reminds me of the Roman and England emperors and their arenas where the Gladiators, the Knights and the slaves were made to fight each other to their death for entertaining the Kings and their coteries.

Of course, IPL had many good sides, getting opportunity for more youngsters to play international cricket side by side the most outstanding players of the world and the mutual rapport happen between players of various nations are the most important aspects.
However, the game needs to be regulated, perhaps like what Mr. Kapil Dev envisaged with formation of ICL.

Another important aspect is that politicians holding extraneous jobs in cricket boards should be stopped. It shall be under an Indian Cricket Control Board under the ministry of sports with concerned ministers in centre and the States as its members.

Thanks to Mr.Tharoor for paving way to clean up the mess, rightfully on his side or otherwise.

So great article and really felt sad after seeing the photo and caption? Why India and Indian people became like this? Those who have money making money again and again like any thing through different ways and those who are poor runnong and crying for water, food and basic amenities. Can we see in our life time a perfect India??????

Why!! Test cricket is the best form of cricket and that tests the real power of a player. We should not get lost in glamor and forget the roots should we??
BJP too is forcing him to resign but he is seeking legal options to stay in. No one wants him, everyone knows how corrupt he is still he is not willing to leave! what should this attitude be called? Do you think he will resign at will ?
Yes it can be called inside information from a blog. We cannot the understand the real feeling without facing a similar situation.
