Thanks for the info , Kiran. We should try and understand why the US is at the bottom of the list - options are plenty , and prices are so reasonable , and the penalties if caught using pirated software so heavy , that no one finds it attractive to use pirated software. If we can replicate all these conditions in India , then we will also figure at the bottom of the list. As there is no absolutely fool-proof way to avoid piracy of one's software , the only solution is - price it low enough , and make the penalties severe enough. Enforcement is an absolute must. In this NASSCOM has to take the lead.

Cyber crime & piracy of soft-wares are on the increase. Even though, international communities are very concerned about it. It, really, remains a challenge to the growing IT field. May be the security they offer during development & usage, needs extra attention so that pirated software copy is restricted / stopped.Long back, I read about pirated copies of Microsoft products & Illaya Raja music in millions.Software engineers need to pay more attention to arrest this pilferage. It is, really a business concern, to companies that are investing so much of money and man power to bring special software in market.

Thanks for the info. And Mr. K. Narayan, yes, I agree. Also, in the US it is also sure shot trail and conviction. Here, that to in TN, one gets booked under the "Goondas Act". All countries need tougher piracy laws and sure shot conviction record to bring down piracy levels. Of course, if the rates come down then the pirated CDs would go out of fashion. Also, for movies, the official CD must be released within weeks after the theater release so that lots of people might wait to get an original track instead of a camera print.

.The piracy of music CDs, software, medicine formulae and many more things run side by side and the problem is acute in developing countries. I think, it is not taken seriously by the government, otherwise the percentage could be remain under control.
