Russia has developed a floating Nuclear power Plant. It represents a new mobile energy source with the first mass production of that kind of vessel. When reactor is launced,a transmitting terminal conveys energy to the coast (receiving infrstructure).Fuelling Plants needs to be refueled every three years while saving up to 200,000 metric tons of coal and 100,000 tons of fuel oil a year.Launch Planned for 2010.More at www.rferl.org.World Nuclear News

Yes,India can be greatly benefit from such kind of technology..as our country needs a lot of energy and I have read somewhere that even if our current plans of providing electricity to every corner of India continues till 2020...still 40 million people will be without electricity at that time.so we should also try to build something on the lines of floating nuclear power plant..what do you guys say?

I had many such ideas in mind for years.
1) It is possible to locate Nuclear Power plants, waste treatment plants and such which need to be away from populated areas, in the sea. These could be built on air filled huge floating concrete boxes in the sea.

2) Hydro-electric plants could be developed with water turbines made to work using water entering in and flowing out big concrete boxes in sea coast during high tide and low tide. Alternately, the water flow during high tide and low tide into land canals and tanks could be harnessed to generate power.

3) It is possible to generate power by setting up millions of Wind power mills in the either in the coast or in the sea near to coastal areas, where ever wind potential available round the clock and round the season.

4) Solar panel power plants also could be set up in sea near to the coast over huge floating concrete boxes.

All these are eco-friendly do not need fuels. Government should take up research on these possibilities and also encourage industrialists who come forward to take up such projects by giving grants, subsidies, tax benefits etc.

Some thing innovative and feasible source of generating power, safe for every one.
Great news and India should look in to the details as we are friends with Russia and if it is really workable why not????
