GIS stands for "Geographic Information Systems."  There is indeed a wide array of choices in GIS applications. One of the major areas of application comes in Real Estate business

GIS in real esate sounds new, but looking at the kind of data that can be generated with the help of GIS, one can gather lots of input regarding  the actual value creation it has.

A geographic information system is used for

  • capturing
  • storing
  • analyzing
  • managing data and associated attributes

which are referenced to a given point or place.

Apart from this it is also a way of developing client customer relationship and to give better customer service.

For example

  • One advantage for a government entity in setting up a working GIS site is that it provides customers an online way to get various types of information on the web without calling or having to drop by the office, thereby freeing up employees for other tasks.
  • The consumer gets an advantage by being able to view a lot of maps, such as zoning maps, online instead of having to purchase one.

so it can be said the GIS application has got immense potential in real estate application, both to the customers and professionals.

The real estate industry—an industry inherently spatial in nature, GIS helps in enabling real estate professionals to measure the true impact of location and thus make appropriate judgments in many areas, including residential brokerage, appraisal, and market analysis.
