There is a 'homogenizing trend' in India today,in terms of 'popular' culture, brides wear lehanga/cholis and grooms wear achkan/sherwanis all over India,a knee long achkan/sherwani with buttoned up high collar made out of thick clothing(if not wool)looks so out of place in a 'tropical'clime that is India in summers at least, it is truly a wonder that how this 'garment' came to be de rigeur in weddings even in South India, especially in receptions.Just like salwar kameez has 'colonised' a whole generation of probably 'all' women in India, similarly male dressing too has been 'standardised'.This has surely helped garment manufacturers who can now manufacture them on large scale, knowing they have a 'pan' India market.
