Much Awaited Elephant Festival in Rajasthan, India

Elephant is well illustrated in the Hindu Mythology. As the Elephant was the divine vehicle (Vahan) of God Indra name of that Elephant was “Airawata”. Since then Elephant become the symbol of royalty in Indian culture and most festivals associated with that. Elephant festival is the most popular festival.

This is the festival of elephant so in this elephant are the main center of attraction. This festival commences with elephants, camel , horses parade marching towards the ground which is followed by the folk dancer. Elephant races, elephant polo matches, tug of war with men is the most interesting competition makes the spectators speechless. Here elephant keepers decorate their elephants from head to toe with exceptional things and then the ‘Best decorated Elephant’ contest is also the feature of this fest.

History
The Rajput kings, treated elephants with special enthusiasm as they not only during war times but also, during royal festivities use the best, which is NIshan-ka-hathi (the flag carrier) to lead the procession. The king always mounted a caparisoned elephant. Special hunting programs and elephant fights were organized to entertain the royal guests. Maharajahs always arranged for their guests of honor, the rides of Elephants up to Amber Palace. Even today , the mahouts carrying elephant rides up to Amber Palace – this tradition carried on till today.
