The European Union has funded Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) with 56 crore for catalysing the formation of pressure group against a popular pesticide, endosulfan!!

The evidence has been collected through RTI (Right to Information) by Federation of Indian Farmers Organisations (FIFO).

FIFO has also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into CSE's sources of funding and its work.

75 million Indian farmers use endosulfan because it is very effective and economical.

FIFO, which is headquartered in New Delhi, is promoted by India's major farmers' groups like Bhartiya Krishak Samaj, Confederation of Kisan Organisations, Rashtriya Kisan Sangathan, Gujarat Farmers Federation, All India Vegetable Growers Association, Bhartiya Kisan Union, and All India Medicinal Plants Association.

NGOs are known for the good work they do but they rarely receive support from Government . This incident will spoil the image of NGOs.

But the main question here is "WHY" , Why did the European union do that??!!

May be they want to promote their brand of pesticide & chemicals & will get a chance , if endosulfan will be banned in coming future in India. Thanks for referral, Darshana.

So long as Indians themselves are not true to their own nation such problems are bound to exist and prosper.

EU lost its Share in Indian Endosulphan Market. In order to gain the pesticide market in India, EU might have approached some NGO's. The alternate pesticides proposed all, is very expensive comparing to Endosulphan (say RS 250/ lit whereas the others costs between 200-3500/lit). Now see the economical part of Endosulphan. Moreover they say, Endosulphan besides killing pesticides, attracts Bees for pollination very much.So farmers likes it. But EU lose ground here.
These info I collected from Agri guys close to me.

India is a country where truth will come out it is simple investment if found suitable for human consumption the EU will adopt the same method instead of using exorbitant priced product now for the same effect.

The best thing will be to promote organic farming.
The use of pesticides should be gradually done away with. The agencies should ensure that they do not start promoting another brand of pesticides. The developed nations are now importing food products free of chemicals used in farming and paying a high price for the same.

Obviously for plundering the country. This ongoing plunder by advanced nations is an ongoing phenomena.

Earlier it was colonial rule and now it is economic subjugation. This is only the tip of the iceberg. So many of our national and state government policies, drafted by our rulers, are based on what is beneficial to the "economic super powers" rather than what is beneficial to us Indians.

Like BT brinjal, this is also their ploy to promote their own patented stuff in India. For your information, the GOI's PSU has a production capacity of 1600 MT / annum of Endosulfan, whose formulations are recommended to control insects & mites of wide range of field crops.
NGOs should also work for larger causes and should not indulge in such activity which affects a larger mass, without finding a suitable alternative and subsidies to cover them up!

The best farming suitable to India is organic farming. This is very economical, sustainable and more profitable. So if some group knowing or unknowingly works against any pesticide it is welcome. Pesticides have done havoc in Indian farming, causing serious health hazard. An areal spray of pesticide at Kerala have affected the entire population under area of spray.
The aim of the European funder may be to promote his brand of pesticide, which might have been banned in Europe and elsewhere

Darshana, I wish to inform you that there are two type of NGOs i.e. one who is working for good and second is working to create hurdles.

The incidence quoted by you is really sad and more sadness comes, when we see that the Indians are operating these NGO’s for creating road blocks.

Other then the above, I remember a NGO, who has created lot of opposition for development of oil and gas field at costal belt. That NGO was working for sea life and to spoil the development they have filed a case in court, stating that the development of O&G field will vanish some type of turtles. Basically this NGO was funded by USA and the prime objective to de-rail the India’s vision for energy independence.

So don’t consider that the NGO’s are working only for good. There are certain people between us, who runs these NGOs to starve the development and for their self interest.

I feel that there should be a credibility check for these NGOs and if they fail in such checks then they should be banned.
