In our Company, I have seen one senior level manager. He is very intelligent but he is not able to express properly.

Even after having good knowledge on the subject sometimes we dont find words and suddenly the brain become an empty shell. Though we know everything of the subject, we feel dumb. Sometimes we cant find the reason for this. Theorists may attach a reason for that- I cant totally agree with them. The situation at that particular time rules your mind. It happens sometimes thats it.

its depends where your, If your in the group of dumb heads , just think what steve job's said .. "STAY HUNGRY STAY FOOLISH"

If your in the group of intellectuals dont just let your self down. fight with them, prove your point. But fear, have some little, but dont make the fear to overcome you, control your fear, control your outcome. Prove your point. :)

Yes it happens.. especially to intellectuals. It is psychological, if you think "The people around in the group are fools and you are the wiseset one" , it helps.

Thank you Smita for bringing a wonderful topic for discussion. Its actually not fear of feeling dumb.We can say it is lack of confidence even after knowing about taht topic. We can even hear a person doing a very bad presentation on the topic and we can do better than him.Still we feel like that means we have to regain our confidence and practice .Firstr time is always a nightmare to most of us.but with practice you can overcome this

Good one Smita. I learnt a new word today. We all feel it sometimes, maybe its because of lack of self confidence. It is best to listen and comprehend before shooting one's mouth off and you can overcome this phobia.

When does it happen? Its not phobia, but half-baked information, that forces one to be dumb! Half information is dangerous! Home work is must before going into any serious discussion - analyse points from both "pros and cons" angle, one would feel then confident to present one's views vividly! Another major factor for this phobia is "inferiority complex"! One should gradually overcome it.

Never feel fear in life....

Fight with fear and get success early or late, then you will feel winner automatically..

Fear will loose your confidence, effort will make strong your confidence...

To make friendship with fear, you never feel fear.

Smita I would beg to disagree, I saw in many cases the ignorant people feel ashamed when they came to know what they didn't knew. I think this phobia sometimes catch up the ignorant people also.

Yes, we feel like we may be 'dumb' especially in company of somebody who is apparently more powerful than us. I feel it personally at times when talking to somebody's who's higher up in the hierarchy!!

This happens when a person is in self doubt. Doubting one's own abilities can dampen one's self esteem. These days the most aggressively talking people are considered the most intelligent. That's the issue. Just look around, tv shows, academic debates, media...all are promoting such culture. Just look at marketing and PR guys...as I observe their behavior closely. The manipulative talk given with impressive appearance can lead others to feel dumb.

The person who is really dumb will never fear of getting looks like a dumb.
So if you are feeling fear of looking dumb than that’s for sure you are not a dumb.

But being dumb is not a bad thing since dumb are the people who do their likings ignoring the whole world.
